You would think moving a license plate wouldn't be that difficult. Who knew you have to take out the gd axle. This is cosmetic for crying out loud. Why does it have to be soo difficult? Ok feel a little better...not really.

I think that's what I'm gonna do. I already ordered the mount so I will have to modify it due to the size of the hole but that will be easy. I don't have a welder so I'll just use some of that stuff you use to patch holes in your radiator to mount a washer. Instant bondo. Let me know if you guys have a better suggestion.

I'm not sure where I will put registration sticker yet. Probably on the back of the plate. Gonna call the DMV to see what the exact law is about the registration sticker. More specifically does it have to face the rear of the vehicle like the plate or just be in proximity of it.

This is what the motor vehicle registration manual states:

The registration insignia for validation of a license plate shall be attached
to the rear license plate of the vehicle, if the vehicle is:
(1) a motorcycle;

Does this mean we can just stick it to the plate?

I just got off the phone with DPS and he looked up the transportation code which is 548.255. Based on the verbage and our discussion it would be okay to stick it to the back side of the plate. It just has to be near the plate

Sec. 548.255. ATTACHMENT OR PRODUCTION OF INSPECTION CERTIFICATE. (a) An inspection certificate shall be attached to or produced for a vehicle in the manner required by department rule.(b) The department shall:(1) require that a certificate for a motorcycle be attached to the rear of the motorcycle near the license plate;

or produced would mean that you can put it under the seat so you can give it to the officer which is great news. Thanks for checking on it. But its one of those things thats clear as mud and every cop an more importantly judge may see it differently.

I'm in Texas as well. A cop buddy of mine (SAPD) said that the registration can go on the back of the plate mount. That's where I have mine and I haven't had any issues.

I just bought a hydraulic motorcycle jack today from Harbor Freight, (which everyone on another thread on this forum was right, how much easier!) and installed my axle mount side plate bracket. I'm also in Texas and have the large inspection sticker to deal with as well. The registration sticker is nothing since it's tiny and gets placed right on the corner of the plate itself..... but that huge annoying inspection sticker which I thought was supposed to be rear facing by the plate,.... I was able to mount by the plate. I used the same cheap and bulky aluminum plate that the dealer sent me out the door with when I bought it, but trimmed it down to size and this is what I came up with in the pic below. Sorry that the actual inspection sticker didn't come out in the pic but the sun was blasting right in the garage when I took the pic, and it's stupid hot down here lately as most know .... so I'll deal with nicer pics of things at a later point..... anyway, you can see the inspection plate that's extending from the bottom side of my vertically positioned license plate.
On another note responding to the OP's statement,.... I too thought what a pain in the butt I thought it was going to be to put on my side mount plate, but with the help of the new jack, it was nothing and took no more than 20-25 minutes to complete. I was able to remove the nut from behind the exhaust with a wrench (without having to remove any part of the exhaust) then was easily able to scoot the axle bolt out with the weight off the rear tire. I slipped on the plate mount, slid the axle back in, and tightened everything back up. I don't suspect any tension or alignment issues would be present since I never changed the positioning of the rear wheel adjusters.... so no problems and this mod ended up being much easier to do than I previously thought. :D
