I took my Stryker in for the 600 mile service and the shop said the belt was extremely loose and they tightened it up to factory specs. I checked it myself and it is at about 7MM. Now there is a noise coming from the front right near my left foot. I took it back and they rechecked everything and said all was within spec.

The noise I am hearing is between 20 and 10 mph and it almost sounds like a rubbing coming from the clutch area, i think. Almost sounds like it is winding down. This noise was not there before I took it in for service. They also used belray oil instead of Yamalube, don't know if that makes a difference but I have heard oil type affecting the clutch before.

So I just wanted to find out if anyone else is experiencing this noise and if it is something I should be worrying about.

I hear that winding noise as well when I shift down every once in a while. I've chalked it up to being normal as the belt slows....just like the clunk going into first gear.
But if you're unsure for a second, get the tech to take it for a test ride.

What you’re hearing is the belt when it's properly tensioned. I’ve read that some guys run the belt just a tad loser than Yamaha recommends so it doesn’t make that winding sound you hear at slow speeds.

I hesitate to advise on anything contrary to the specs outlined in the manual, but their belt tension spec is too tight. I tighten to about 1/2 " deflection at the center point with about 10 lbs pressure. I have about 60,000 miles on the old Harley with the same belt so I must be doing something right. ;D

Belt noise after 600 mile checkup

Same thing here, took my 2012 stryker in for the 600 mile breakin checkup and now there's a whine coming from the belt. Near as I can tell its only at slow speeds although it could be happening at faster speeds too, just can't hear it over the valves. The shop said it was the belt and normal. Aw well. Guess ill just get those louder pipes to cover it up ;)

They may have adjusted your belt. Even though they may have done adjustment by the specs in manual, many of us have found that just slightly looser than the spec is best. Get a louder exhaust and that will fix any residual noises. LOL

I posted on this subject previously, on my bike when I had the 600 mi done @ selling Yamaha dlr - as soon as I got it back & rode it I sensed something was wrong esp @ lower speeds & @ low speed turns esp. left handers. I took it back to the dlr & they said they chk'd it & it was O.K. "the difference being the belt was loose @ 600 miles" Two days of riding went by & the noise was really bothering me so I called another Yamaha dlr ,w/a good srvc dept reputation, & explained my issue, they said bring it in, I did & they sqeezed it in ASAP, the Srvc Mgr & Mechanic each rode it 1st & agreed their was something wrong(to my knowledge the original dlr didn't when I brought it back w/issue) Anyway the belt was adjusted improperly & was riding on the left side of pulley instead of the center therefore the problem esp on left hand turns. The dlr didn't even chg to readjust it properly & the noise & all was gone in 30 mins. I have had Harleys w/belt drives so I knew something was wrong. According to 2nd DLR it is easy to mis-adjust/align the belt incorrectly on this model. My advise is have another dlr chk the alignment & belt tension of the belt, even if they chg it will probably be around $25-30, well worth the piece of mind!
