First post here...had been running drilled stock pipes but just added V&H twin slash pipes and have a ejk tuner on the way. I put the pipes on and took it for a spin with the o2 sensor unplugged since I don't have the fuel programmer yet. I assume the ecu will default to a richer setting similar to the resistor mod for the o2 sensor...Or will it be too rich all over the rpm range? The test ride was only a few miles but seemed to run smoother with less chugging at low rpms in 1st/2nd gear and backfires on decel were not very bad at all. So just a thought for the stock owners looking to do the resistor mod...maybe just unplug it all together. Please chime in if this has been done, but my search turned up nothing. Maybe it will suck gas like crazy, but don't think so. I didn't ride the bike any more yet and will be a moot point when I get the controller as I have read the o2 sensor gets unplugged anyway.

doesnt that give an error code? Its there for a reason, if u disconnect it, it must change something in the ecu. I've been reading lots of o2 mod threads with the resistor but they are still leaving the sensor in the exhaust pipe. I want it gone completely without fuel or engine problems.

Left it unhooked yesterday and no code or CEL. Ejk and bully tuners actually tell you to unplug it. Don't think it will do anything except let it run richer...which is what we want. Ejk sales guy stated it would not throw on a CEL if it is unhooked when I asked about it and others who have the tuner have not had any issues with it being unplugged.

When you use the resistor mod, you aren't bypassing the sensor, just adding resistance, so it's still a closed loop. Disconnecting it effectively bypasses it, making it an open loop, i.e., no more feedback for the ECU. You have to pick one or the other.

Edit: opening the circuit by disconnecting the sensor, is equivalent to adding an infinitely large resistor to the circuit.

Did you get the chugging before and was the chugging there after you unplugged it??

Yes, it chugged a lot just off idle in 1st and 2nd, much better now after unplugging it. The pipes don't seem to have leaned it out much with the stock air box, but I am either doing the air box mod or adding a big air kit. Anyone know if there is much to gain with a BAK over just modding the stock air box?

Can't say for the Air box mod, didn't really like it. I installed the La Choopers big air kit and the bike is torque now. You can really feel it pull. The one down side is the "sucking" sound.

Install the Vance & Hines twin staggered yesterday and put 80 miles on it today. I also replaced the O2 sensor with a wide band sensor and the bike was dialed right in. Ran 14.5-14.7 cruising and 13.0-13.5 under load. IMO unplug the O2 sensor. I checked my fuel milage and got 38 mpg and that was plenty of playing around.

What's a wide band sensor. I have the V&H twin slash. And ultimatelyijust unplugged the O2 sensor. The bike in my opinion runs great. No surging or chugging. Been riding like that for about 200 miles and no errors or CEL. only thing I plan on doing next is the pulley swap.

A wide band sensor is a O2 sensor that pick's up the air/fuel ratio. Mine reads from 10.0-24.0(wide band). The stock O2 sensor is a narrow band sensor. It just tells you what the bike is running at. It does not interact with the ECU. So my bike is basically the same as yours but with a gauge that tells me the air/fuel ratio :thumb:

Same here. Unplugged my 02 sensor a few days ago and I love it. Strangely, the bike doesn't feel like it has as much pull off the line now, which doesn't make any sense to me. Anyone else who unplugged their 02 sensor feel like the bike runs "slower" in first gear now?

Are you stock or did you do any mods? If you are stock then maybe you are running to rich with it unplugged.

I'm still stock, engine wise. I plugged it back in tonight and it definitely pulls more with the 02 sensor in. Now i just have to decide whether I'd rather have more pull with surging or less pull and little to no surging. Hmm
