Well my learned Stryker riders, I have a dilemma.

When I come over to the Good Ol' U S of A in July, I believe it may be a bit warm.

I currently wear a Caberg flip front trip helmet with a retractable sun visor.

Will I be too hot in it? More imortantly, will I look uncool in it? It is black and I am tempted to get a blue open faced helmet to match my bike.

I wear a flip up most of the time I have a seven zero seven crusader. I also have a half helmet. I live in the south where it gets over 100 degrees for majority of the year and actually a full helmet is cooler in the heat when moving, when stopped it does start to get hot but with a flip up you get both worlds.

The temperature, or more importantly the humidity will depend on where in the usa you are going. In riding season I see full, half, and no helmets, irregardless of temperature. Personally I would wear what you are more comfortable with, after all its your melon. You can always bring both, or even pick up a cheap half helmet to wear during your visit here.

I've recently begun riding around town and to work with no helmet, and although I think its dumb I still do it. I do however have a full face and a half helmet as well for when I feel like wearing one, or for long trips. I agree with what Stryker posted about the full face and heat too. Last summer we had some hot, humid days where even the air blowing on my face was so hot as to be uncomfortable.

Well for me living in central Georgia. I always wear a full face helmet. Regardless of the temp. I don't ride to look cool. I catch a lot of flack from the cruisers but I will feel alot better if heven forbids that worste happens. If you have a flip up helmet can't you ride with it up if you want and just put on some tinted safety glasses?

I have both a half helmet and a full face helmet. I wear the half helmet with sunglasses most of the time now. I do wear my full face when the weather cools off or if it may rain. I feel more comfortable with my full face on but that is due to wearing it when I had my old bike. I just starting using a half helmet two months ago, when I got the Stryker.

I never ride with-out some kind of helmet on my head. Helmets designs have come a long way over the past five years and I see no reason to go without a helmet to be "cool".

Most of them, no unless you want your head ripped off from the wind. Shark actually makes one that flips all the way back and looks good.

I live in Texas where it got up to 112 degrees this past summer. On the highway it was around 135 degrees. I always wear a full face and like others have stated it is cooler with the full face and shield down when it's that hot. Instead you may want to invest in a cooling jacket. Basically you wear it under your riding gear. It's filled with water and you out it in the fridge or freezer overnight. Since it cools your core it keeps your whole body cooler.

The full face also helps with dehydration because the sweat stays in your helmet instead of drying from the wind. Dehydration is something you really have to be careful about with the heat. You don't want to pass out doing 80 on the highway.

I wear a half helmet and motorcycle shades ( the kind that fit close to the face with foam rubber to block the wind). I paid $70 for the Street & Steel (made by Bell) helmet , but then I have only a $70 head. Try as I might, I still can't look cool. Well, maybe I'd look cool in the UK but I live in GA and AL, USA. The Stryker is a "cool" bike though and that is not a debatable issue !!! I have a windshield (or flyscreen as the Brits call it) and
perhaps that detracts from the coolness. July in the US is generally hot unless you're at altitude.

If your going to be riding in Georgia in the summer the bugs can be pretty bad near the coast,
a full face stops the whole bug in the teeth thing.
Ditto! down here in Florida we got some dragon flies the size of small birds, full face is the safest. I was trial testing a Scorpion EXO 900 modular and took a dragon fly hit in the face shield that took a divot out of the plastic. Anything less than full face would have hurt a lot.

definately go with the flip up, protection when you need it and cool breezes at the stop signs. I always where mine, doesnt look quite right on a cruiser but id rather be safe.

My last ex gf tried to tell me I had to wear an open face helmet because I bought a cruiser. Needless to say I ignored her "expert" advice and eventually her altogether lol. I bought three different scorpion helmets(one for my kiddo), and they IS cool.

Jan, you don't have to worry about looking cool. remember you are riding the most cool looking bike out there. And you are a hot girl on a Stryker. Hot girl on a cool bike = the coolest ever. But I can not stress to you enough the importance of wearing a full faced helmet. Especially for the kind of riding you are planning on doing here in the states.
Read thoroughly everybody's comments here on the subject. Especially the ones that say,"WEAR A FULL FACED HELMET." Your flip up is fine on occasion. And maybe a blue one would match your bike.
Of course the first and most important thing is the crash factor. But you must consider the conditions you will be riding in. Multiple days at freeway speeds in changing weather conditions. Throw in the animal, the bug and bird factor and passing trucks kicking up road debris and in Roswell, falling UFO parts  I am speaking from experience. Well maybe not the UFO parts ::) but, In 70s and 80s I rode through the deserts of Ca, NV, AZ, NM, TX etc. in the summer and I can tell you, I learned my lesson getting severe wind burn, sun burn and cuts from flying debris. I've had bee stings and OMG AZ and TX have grasshoppers as big as mocking birds, SPLAT, almost knocked me of my bike.
And might I add, that god forbid you do take a spill or have to lay your bike down your trip won't be interrupted by a trip to the hospital or cut short because you got a concussion or broken jaw. When my wife face planted I was able to pick her up dust her off, then we both picked the bike up got it home and put it back together, and the next day we were on the road. This wold not have been possible if she was not wearing a full face helmet. The face shield was destroyed and all she got was a fat lip. Need I say more?

I started with a full face when I first started riding and have gotten a smaller helmet every couple of years. I now where the smallest legal helmet. I love it because its light and my head doesn't get bashed around by the wind. I have no windshield and where sunglasses with the beanie, so my face gets pretty beaten up after a ride from bugs. Had to replace a pair of glasses last season because something hitting me cracked them. The worst is in June when the June Bugs are out. Hard shelled flying weapons. But even with the pain I still love it. 8)
