Has anyone found a different option for a passenger backrest other than what you can buy on the Yamaha website? I have a hard time shelling out $300+ for something that will only be used a few times a year when the old lady wants to ride with me.

It'll just take a little longer every time you want to put it on and take it off.

With your experience how long does it take you to install and remove the fixed backrest? The $77 savings compared to the quick release is enticing. Also not having the clunky bolts on there when the quick release isnt on would be better.

Remove for mounting bolts and replace with stock fender bolts. Complete assembly out of the box was only 30 min.

It's not a huge time frame to remove the 4 bolts as Smoken has said. The cost saying is worth it. Not sure how often people 'actually' remove the quick release, but for me, if I were to remove it I would be shining/washing the bike prior to a ride anyways, so the extra couple of minutest to remove/put on isn't a big deal to me.

I have to say that the Star Backrest is a pretty good design... strong, and looks good. Real good quality.

Yes I agree for the savings on the fixed mount and it took me only 10 minutes or so to install with an extra helping hand. And I would think even less time to remove it. It's well worth it.
