I just got a letter today saying that the Outlaw carbon fiber low profile helmets failed DOT testing, and are being recalled. They will issue a refund, or give me a replacement. I bet the replacement will be a big ol mushroom head. I love this helmet...

Just got it today. It was sent to my work , I guess because that's where I had the helmet sent to by Leather Up. I emailed the company to see what they will replace it with. Haven't heard back.

The letter wasn't from leather up, or outlaw. I don't remember the name, and I left the letter at work. The address was in Venice, Ca.

Apparently they just started the recall. It may not affect all the helmets, though I have no idea how they could ascertain that without getting the old helmet back. I'll give them a couple of days before I try to get ahold of them. Maybe I'll get the letter by then. My model #, from Leather Up is different, but appears to be the same helment: http://www.leatherup.com/site/product?pid=147784

It does suck. I like this helmet.

Yea, the part number changed. They were out of stock for a while before I got mine, and when they got them back in, the part number was different. If you got yours longer ago , might be the old part number, and might not be part of it.

Hey no offense to anyone but how much protection do these helmets really give anyway??
Seems people purchase them because they look good or for when they are riding through states that require helmets.

To each his own but if I choose to wear a 1/2 helmet in summer I know the risks I'm taking verses a full face. DOT approval is certainly nice but unless I fall I just right, that helmet isn't going to provide very much protection IMNSHO.

I agree. I can't see a DOT half helmet giving much more protection than a non DOT half helmet. They are not as safe as full face, that's for sure. I think that's why I haven't sent mine back in. Afraid they will send me a big ol mushroom helmet in It's place..

I will. I got the impression that they were replacing it with a DOT compliant low profile helmet. If they send me a helmet I don't want, I'll sell it and use one of the helmets I already own. Or buy a different one.

No offense taken. I bought a helmet I believed to be DOT compliant, so that's what I want. I have my doubts as to whether any helmet will save my life under any given set of circumstances, but that's not really what this thread is about, is it?
