That copper one in the showroom is exactly like mine. It came with the wheels having the recess and painted inside the recess like that from the factory. I'm not sure about your wheels, if they also have the recess. I've used the tape on a few bikes and been happy with it. Just make sure the rim is clean and don't touch the sticky side so a good bond is formed. The older type that came in a straight line roll was tricky to apply because you had to bend/stretch the tape to the curve of the rim as you applied it and it was hard to keep it steady and even all the way around. You cannot use a wet application method with this straight tape because it will contract and go out of shape before bonding so it was a dry method application.
I not sure about applying tape inside the recess if yours are recessed. We have a local paintshop that has a cad system where you can design your own tape, with colours, branding or logo's whatever. They then print it in 4 quarter sections with the curve already in it for the exact size of the rim so it's very easy to apply. You can also use the wet application method so you get the alignment exactly right because there is no stretch tension in the tape and once dry it's a good bond. If your wheels are recessed I think a good pin-stripe artist could easily run a stripe in the recess. That would be neater and more durable.
