I was wondering if anyone could assist me in the steps to take down my paint so that i can paint my bike satin black. I want to do this in my garage and i was wondering the procedure on how to get the best results. Such as do i just need to sand the clear off and what sand paper should i use. also what is the best paint "from a can" that i can use.

any help would be greatly appreciated...

I used Fine textured Black rustoleum paint on mine. If you like that, just sand lightly and Paint 3 or so coats. But once you start sanding you are committed.

Understand your delima I had mine less than a week before I had it painted. Took tank to painter to have a pro do it. He did down to 3000 grit paper and I did finall polishing , only cost around $80 . It was well worth it to me .

I'm actually thinking about putting that tank back on bike and painting the rear fender same. Then there will be nothing but my wheels to shine up.

wow that looks great... did you do it all from a spray can? The black one of course... :)
Yes Sir, right from Walmart. Did my Engine cylinder covers, Chinscoop, Front reaper fender, ignition & Speedo covers, and side covers with same paint. No problems with paint not adhering whether it be plastic or steel. I only used a primer on steel tank,

Sanded clear off and also through side decals. Finish sanded with 400 grit which is good enough as long as you don't use gloss paint. Then used Rustoleum Gray primer before 3 coats of Fine textured.

I should have added that my finish sanding with 400 was wet sanding with water and the black wet sanding style of paper. Sorry- forgot that.
