No ... you don't want to sand between coat.

I personnally sand at 200 then 600 lightly ... 3 light coats of primer, 3 light coats of paint ...

The parts look like factory one believe me!

I didn't sand between coats either, just blew the dust off before next coat.
I didn't use sandpaper. I scuffed with 00 steel wool. Use flexible plastic primer.
U can use any paint u want as long as u used the correct primer.

I wouldn't sand in between coats. Definitely clean after sanding. Could simply wash and dry it off or use a tack cloth. I'm starting to check into water image transferring/hydro coating. I've heard it called both. I know someone posted a piece they did themselves on this forum. That's what got me interested in doing my chrome in that.

Have you guys heard about powder coating the parts instead of having them painted ???
most of the pieces (if not all) are plastic - can't powdercoat plastics.

Just started taking some pieces off and got sanding but have a question. When your sanding these pieces are you just sanding them to scuff them up and get the shine off them? Im using the self etching primer on them.

Hey everyone. I'm having the chrome pieces around the engine painted black at a body shop. Does the black paint have to be high heat paint?
Being the the engine is liquid cooled it does not get that hot to the touch. Other wise it would melt the plastic covers. I'm fairly certain any paint will hold up to the engine heat. Now the exhaust heat shields are a different story the'll need a thermal or ceramic coating. There is no harm in using hi temp paint tho.

You want to just scuff them enough so that the primer will stick well. Don't want to sand through the chrome plating. That would be harder to cover a look smooth. The paint will stick to the primer well enough but if the primer has nothing to stick to it can easily peel right back off if it got scratched or chipped. So yes, just a good scuff.

Thanks Sanderclause. I will be posting pics once the bike is completed. Giving it a different look. Ordered the Low and Mean rear and front fenders as well as the radiator chin guard and solo seat. Also ordered he low and mean lowering kit, the cobra swept exhaust, cobra air intake, cobra auto tuner and bullet headlight. Painting the bike a whole different color. Want it to pop. Its currently the copper. Just waiting on all the parts to come in. Thanks again.

Has anyone had any issues with the paint cracking as its drying? Put 3 coats of primer on it yesterday and started with the black today but within 30min of spraying it, it started to crack.
Wo!

1. What brand of paint are you using?
2. What is the temperature in the room you are painting? Are you under direct sun light?
3. You might put too much on the same layer. Are you going on the thin side?

With good paint and good temperature, you part will look factory like.
