Being the the engine is liquid cooled it does not get that hot to the touch. Other wise it would melt the plastic covers. I'm fairly certain any paint will hold up to the engine heat. Now the exhaust heat shields are a different story the'll need a thermal or ceramic coating. There is no harm in using hi temp paint tho.Green said:Hey everyone. I'm having the chrome pieces around the engine painted black at a body shop. Does the black paint have to be high heat paint?
You want to just scuff them enough so that the primer will stick well. Don't want to sand through the chrome plating. That would be harder to cover a look smooth. The paint will stick to the primer well enough but if the primer has nothing to stick to it can easily peel right back off if it got scratched or chipped. So yes, just a good scuff.stryker11 said:Just started taking some pieces off and got sanding but have a question. When your sanding these pieces are you just sanding them to scuff them up and get the shine off them? Im using the self etching primer on them.
Wo!stryker11 said:Has anyone had any issues with the paint cracking as its drying? Put 3 coats of primer on it yesterday and started with the black today but within 30min of spraying it, it started to crack.
