I want the headlight and the speedo housings black what is the best way to tackle this task? Just wanted to get some info before I started ripping things off and getting crazy with paint and such, any good ideas or even where to begin and what paint would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

I'm in the process of doing mine now. I removed the pieces and washed them in warm, soapy water and used a mild scratch pad to rough them up just a little bit. Since it's not a huge job I'm using a Krylon Matte Black Fusion that is designed to adhere to plastic. So far I'm pretty happy with it, but we'll see if it has durability.

For all those painting the chrome you DO NOT need to use paint specifically for plastic (i.e. krylon fusion.)

I discovered "long ago" :) when I did mine that these pieces do indeed have a true chrome finish (i.e. copper, nickle chromium) therefore it has a layer of metal on top of the plastic. So unless you plan on completely removing the chrome, there is no need for plastic specific paint.

A good primer though (like self etching) and you can use pretty much use what ever you want.

Just a heads up. ;)

I used Krylon ( I posted that earlier) and would not recommend it to anyone. My left boot wore a patch off after 1 short ride. I'm going to have to remove it all and start over with a higher quality product.

Pros/Cons of the plastic dip? Any thoughts?

You have to use self etching primer on the "fake chrome" first. If going with flat black just use plasti dip. You dont need primer or sanding. Pretty much goes on like paint, then cures. After curing you can pretty much just rub (kinda hard) and then peel off kinda like a latex glove.
