Based on another thread on this forum, I purchased a PIAA Slim Line Sports Horn. It came today and I was psyched because I really want to replace the whiny stock horn. I decided to plug it in before installing it to see how it sounds. I'm glad I did because it was underwhelming.

My wife thinks it's not as loud as the stock horn. I think they're about the same volume, but the PIAA isnt as high pitched. I'm not sure which would be more effective, but neither of them is loud enough the get the attention of some cell phone guy who is drifting from lane to lane.

So, the PIAA is going back and I'm going to order a Wolo Bad Boy and see how that sounds. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a horn? Please keep in mind that I'm not a master mechanic, so it needs to be fairly easy to mount.

Speaking of the Wolo, I've seen videos on here of how to mount it, but nothing about how to wire it. The docs fornthis horn say you need a relay. Did you really have to use that? If so how do I wire it to the battery?

Sorry for the violation in forum etiquette of replying to my own post!

Interesting. You're talking about the Slim Line horn, right? It really didn't sound any louder to me. Does it matter which wire goes to which terminal? I just pulled the wires off the stock horn and plugged the, into the sport horn. Might it be louder if I reverse the wires?

I have the PIAA set up on my bike. This sucker is loud. The kit I got was 2 horns one 400mhz, one 500mhz.
From Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FXMGLY

It was on sale $45.00 and free shipping with my Prime account.

I had a couple of horn related close calls, one with my 11 yr old on the back, and decided to upgrade the decibels.
I'll get a picture of the mount and make a short video of the sound to post up later this weekend.
I couldn't be happier with the sound. One unit mounted in the stock position, one on the radiator grill cover. Kind of a junkyard dog look, but I don't mind.

The stock Stryker horn is the single WORST component on these bikes. L&M are you listening?

Agreed - please post pics! How does the wiring work? Did the existing wiring work or did you need to install a relay and wire the battery? Did you yave to split the existing wiring to go to both horns or does one horn plug into the other? My horn only included a single horn - two horns with different tones is probably exactly what's needed!

Quick pictures of Piaa "Twin" Slimlines installed.
This install took about 30 minutes to fabricate the harness, using taps etc. I had on hand.
I just got some flag terminals that should clean up the wiring tremendously.
Note: I tapped into the stock connecters no relays needed.

If I wanted to . . . I could remove this stuff and be back stock in 5-10 minutes.

Video/audio should be up in a couple hours.

First of all, I'm jealous of your beautiful weather! I think we've had 2 sunny days here in Maryland since I purchased my Stryker three weeks ago - and I rode both days! Today was 48 degrees - FORTY EIGHT DEGREES - and raining again.

Thanks for shooting the pics, video, and sound. The horn sounds GREAT - the two tones makes a huge difference. And thanks for answering the question about wiring - I'm going to order mine tonight!

One more question. - how did you get the decals off?

Hair dryer medium heat, the pointy end of the sticker peeled up the whole thing. There wasn't much goo if any left behind.
A buddy of mine sez he has glow in the dark Skull Stickers that should be a perfect fit . . . I may have to have a looksee at what he has got.

I just got my pair of PIAA horns. I wired them up just to see how they sounded. I made the mistake of trying it out at night in my garage - they were DEAFENING! I hooked up the stock horn just to compare in the same environment. I'm definitely keeping these.

Now I need to find a good way to mount them. I'm thinking of going them together, putting a steel bracket between the two screw mounts, and mounting the bracket to the original mounting bracket. We'll see. I'm very slow with this stuff.

Thanks for the recommendation!

I went ahead and installed it in place of the old horn on the right side. But I like the idea of the left side too - might try moving them. Here's a photo of them on the right side. They sound like a car horn - they're loud and they get attention.

Correction: I tried posting a photo and it kept telling that the upload folder is full - contact the administrator. I'll try posting a photo tomorrow - maybe things will work themselves out on the server.
