If someone will donate a plastic chrome piece so that I can test it with powder coating, if successful, I will do some free powder coating for their other parts.

Plastic struts will melt away in oven.

Have you guys tested it? There is a low temp powder coat but I am having a hard time buying it.
Have not heard of that but while you can "chrome" plastic I'm thinking the powder coating would be iffy. I think the normal stuff bakes at like 400 degrees for a decent amount of time...
Black chrome would look cool though

The other issue is that powdercoating relies on the material being conductive. It puts a positive charge on the part and a negative charge to the powder which causes the attraction. I'm thinking you probably won't get a very good charge on plastic... And it would melt in the oven.

I'd love to help out.... if they do repair my bike... I can send you all my "old" plastic chrome covers... to test out and experiment on. Hopefully I'll find out in a few day's what the estimate & insurance says...

Mmmmmmmm.... Black Chrome. The best of both worlds.

It is possible to get chromed parts re-chromed in black chrome?
Autozone sells an anodized paint in various colors to include black. That is where I got the pain for my red chrome look I am going for. You just do a few light coats directly over the chrome. The more coats the darker it gets.

Speaking of which.... how many coats did you end up using?

I have some Kuryakyn Chrome Plastic fork protector covers made for the Raider that I messed up trying to get to fit the Stryker. I basically grinded the ridge off the back of them, but the contour and length was still wrong. PM me if you think they would work for your experiment. They do have 3M adheisive double sided tape on the back, so take that into consideration....I'm not sure if that would melt in the oven and mess things up, or maybe you could remove the tape first? It's this part http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/3787/Chrome-Fork-Protector-Covers
