Few weeks ago I bought the yamaha tall backrest (quick release version) and one of the cylinder holding the backrest in place got loosse and fell of the bike.

So I called yamaha to get a replacement parts ... and they told we cannot order parts for optional equipment. The parts dude told me that I will need to order the complete backrest (that is 376$ MSRP) to get that bolt.

No fricking way ... I am so pissed right now!

Same thing happened to me with the spacers for the fixed backrest. I bought mine used and they were not included. I went down to my dealer and he told me the same BS. I just found something that was close at Menards. For bolts though, you should be able to go to pretty much any hardware store and get something with the same threads. Length might be a little different, but I'd say just find something close. Longer is better than shorter, but not too long or it might hit your tire.

That is BS man. what kind of bolts do you need ????? Do you have the backrest with the support saddlebags or without them ? if it is without them send me a PM and I may be able to give you the bolts...I have a similar situation but in my case is that my dealer installed me the saddlebag support bars without the backrest and they had to order a special kit with smaller bolts. But the dealer threw away the larger bolts that came originally with the saddlebag support bar and now that I bought the backrest it does come with bolts but they are not long enough to support both things together. So I called my dealer asking for the original bolts and they told me that they threw them away. Since it was their fault now they are going to replace them and they called Yamaha and yamaha is sending them the longer bolts... However they told me that the bolts would be 95m longer and that I have to cut them because that is the only length they have that they can send. But I guess its better than nothing... 8)

You need back bolts to be 90mm length and the front bolts to be 85mm length if your setup is with the saddlebag support bars if its just the backrest only without the saddlebags then your bolts need to be 70mm for the back and 65mm for the front and I have extra of those, just send me a PM.

Also This might help... http://www.boltdepot.com/Metric_socket_cap_Class_12.9_steel_black_oil_finish_8mm_x_1.25mm.aspx

i've had a hard time trying to find them... The problem is the length I had to go to the dealer because no hardware store in Pittsburgh had them that long and I found that website but it costs me more to have them shipped than the actual price of the bolts

I got several different sizes from the hardware store to fit my backrest/bag supports they sell all kinds go look.
Also tell the dealer they have their head up their $$$. When I bought mine they through in a extra set to make sure I had the right size.

I have a feeling its not the bolts he's fussing about but its the big rollers or what ever you want to call them that the back rest hooks onto.
Hey guys thanks for your support. Yes in fact I am talking about the rear long bolt with the roller over it (since it is the quick release version). I am not near my bike right now but will take a picture soon. I will try to call customer relation! Thanks for the number :)

Yeah I got a set off ebay from England. M8 x 100mm and then just cut them to what I needed.

Do you want the QR? I bought mine a year ago and only had the back rest off and one of those was to put on new tail light. If its black I would concider a trade

That's nuts man! I cannot believe that Yamaha would not make every effort to make it right. Definitely go through customer service and raise **** if you've got to. Good luck!
