Hi everyone. I picked up a 2003 R1 tail light . I started to install it today and nothing was working I unplugged the tail light and then the signal lights started working. I plugged it back in and nothing. Anybody else run into that issue. If so how might I fix it. Thinking I might have gotten a pooched taillight. Hope not so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I used a 12v supply and 2 pins to test when I got mine. Might not hurt to try that also. Maybe it's the ground disconnected. Or isolate where the problem is.??????
Make sure the wires in the taillight plug match the wires in the bike plug. In other words, running light to running light, brake to brake, etc. The one I got, I had to move the wires around to match the bikes.
Well I had problems with mine. I switched the R1 cover for the stock cover and it worked and looked great. Then it went haywire on me....apparently I didn't seal the cover well enough and moisture got inside. I sealed it up thoroughly with rtv gasket silicone so I don't know why it did that. I tried taking it back apart and trying again, but the light is still not working quite right.
Decided against buying another R1 and going to buy the Kawasaki light instead. That way I won't have to take the light apart.
If you're not taking the cover off, I don't think you will have that prob. If you swap the covers like I did, just be careful to seal it good. I thought I did, but it still condensated inside.
Thanks again for the help. It was the wiring it didn't match up. I asssumed that because the plug was the same so was the wiring. I should know better than that

If you are going to mount it using the existing hardware then the R1 lens looks fine. If you are going to mount it the way clar and others have done then I would recommend swapping the lens.
Bane - I see you got the version that has 8-12 red AND 8-12 amber per side. Do you find that the amber gets washed out buy the red? Or does the red shut off on a particular side when the amber activates?
The other version has 10 dual dye LEDs per side that emmit both red AND amber. I think this would be better.
Its hard to tell from the pics and videos they post which version is brighter.

I ordered one too, except I went with the Kawi light that has the dual dye LEDs.
Its been a sureal experience considering I used to own an 07 zx6r and never did this mod. Now I'm installing one on a Yamaha. (scratches head)
