Re:gas caps

Ok guys, here is a possibly dumb question, but oh well... are the stock gas caps vented or not vented? If I understand correctly, the venting allows a small amount of air into the tank via a one-way valve..... however, isn't that along the same ideals of sticking a soda straw into the soda, only to see the soda being pushed up and sometimes out of the straw by the carbonation?? And Carlock, is this not the same issue you ran into with the RSD Gear cap?? The air pressure in the tank pushing some of the gas out via the vent? That issue there leads me to believe our caps are not vented. If I am wrong, please let me know!!! I am looking at replacing my gas cap, and depending on the cap, would I need to replace the steel bung as well, ex: a screw-on cap may need the bung replaced, etc. Thanks guys (and gals)!!!!! :D

Carlock didn't report having any problems. It was me who ended up having venting issues. And yes, the OEM gas cap is vented. I wish I understood the venting routing system well enough to explain it to others.... good luck on your mod!

Gas isn't carbonated... the gas that you thought was being pushed up really wasn't... it was sloshing around and splashed up.
Lmao, yes, I know gas is not carbonated, the soda thing was just an example. :). I was trying to figure out why the gas would start leaking out when the bike sat overnight (if I remember correctly).... capillary action?? Not sure. Anyway, will dig out my manual, and take a close look at those pages.... will let y'all know when I change the cap out and if it works!! Thank you, all of you!!!! :D

Re:gas caps

I would think that if you filled the tank up in the upright position and then put the cap on and leaned the bike on the stand it would leak. It is not the tight cap as my VTX. Just sayin.

Wyntress, you must be topping it off.....try to refrain yourself from topping it off everytime. I hope this helps!

Believe it or not, I do not fill the tank past the fill disc in the tank. I am asking these questions to try and derail any problems I may encounter when I replace the stock gas cap. I am not experiencing any leaks at all right now with the stock cap. :). I am thinking of getting the pop-up gas cap in black from pro-one.
