hey Pete, I used the factory plate bracket, what we did was dremel the plastic off and then used a marker to mark the plate and then removed it and cut it. Leaving the plate on kept the plastic from moving while we cut it so we got a nice clean cut of the plastic and it required very little sanding to take away rough edges. It's a slow and tedious project but we still knocked it out in less than 2 hours. Thanks for the feedback. I'm not the 1st to do this by no means, just copying what others had done.

Correct me if i'm wrong... Did you cut the crap with it still on the bike and then put the plate on the bracket to mark the line to cut?

We cut the plastic off with it still on the bike, then we marked the plate, removed it and cut it. There is a wire that goes to the bottom light. You will have to cut it and wrap the end with electrical tape.

I would suggest you remove the plastic first. Much cleaner job. You will cut the metal plate if you want to mount a side plate. Keep it for a rear plate. You need the plate either way, because it holds your brake light. See the post attached. It was spoken about awhile ago.

I just unplugged mine... and tucked it in.. it goes to your tag light.... but of course I took that whole piece off and unplugged everthing and took everything off that plastic part to cut it...
