How do I remove the chrome plastic piece around my gas cap?

Is it glued on or something? I want to take it off and possibly leave it off all together, and if not at least paint it black if I must have it on there.

There are an easy 10 threads on this. Just yank it off carefully. 2-sided tape only holds it on. Don't be surprised if you see a tank seam under it though.

It's stuck on with double-stick foam tape. You can pull it off on a really warm day. You can also use some fine fishing line to cut through the tape.

Don't fret it friend! the search option on this forum is from the dark ages. It won't look for 3 letter words or less( cap, gas) . How ridiculous is that.
