I saw the Parts Unlimited review and decided to post one up about the L&M one after putting 100 miles on it.

First of all, I bought it purely for looks. I prefer how the flowing lines of the fender continue to the seat. I didn't expect it to actually be more comfortable than the stock seat. I'm 5'7" and weigh 150 lbs so I don't have a big ass. I sit noticeably lower and more forward. With the 2.5" PCS drop I was already flatfooting at stoplights. With the additional drop from this seat I'm planted firmly on the pavement.

The cushion feels better. My stock seat isn't old and worn, either, with just a bit over 1000 miles on it.

The stitching looks real nice, too. The cover material is vinyl and it isn't bad, so we'll see how it holds up to the elements and regular usage. When it does show signs of wear I will get it professionally recovered in a different color leather. I want the seat to look and feel like a broken-in baseball glove.

Overall, for the price, this was an excellent value and it vastly improves the look of my bike. Your mileage may vary, however.

Thanks for the review and pictures, I am planning to buy it also mainly for looks

So the l&m seat pushes you forward? I was expecting the lower position but forward is not something I want

I don't know about forward, if anything it puts you down and back maybe an inch? It does however put you in a better relatioship to the bars which could make it feel more forward? I liked the seat as well but on a longer trip it can wear on ya a bit.

I have both the covered seat from lm and one that I did using there pan. I think there seat is a nice finished product, its been done really nice and I think most people would enjoy it. I personally enjoy being lower on a bike so this style seat suits me.

One thing about building your own is you can shape the foam to your own personal liking...I found this makes a big difference in seats...I shave em for my rear not everyone else's...I'm going to go back and redo my other one in leather and see how that suits me...but I'm real happy to have a nice stand in.

I will try the factory seat and do a back to back. I'm thinking the "cup" where your bottom is supposed to be cradled in was moved lower and therefore it had to be moved forward, but I'll have to check again because you are probably right.

I'm thinking I'd like to do a weekend trip to West Texas so I'll write back on a road trip impression.

i did about 400 miles in a single day recently with the L&M seat after the memory foam and new cover were put on, when the new cover was put on the seam across the back was removed so it's all one piece covering the whole seat, what i found on the long ride was it was immensely comfortable but not as many ass shift options as the factory seat, so i had some pains in my knees (old man knees) and hips (old man hips) but no pain whatsoever in the ass, taint or lowr back area

I've been using the Low and Mean seat for a entire riding season, so I feel I can give it a true review. Looks F#@$ great on the bike. Looks better when your standding next to it, then what you even see in photos. The vynal they use must be good quality, because it looks the same now as it did when I put it on. Even though it has less foam then stock, it feels the same in comfort. Puts you in a better cruzer style seating position and you feel more layed out, then forward leaning. I don't see how anyone can say this seat pushes you forward. You sit lower, so your closer to the ground and may be closer to your foot pegs because of the drop, but I feel like I'm sitting on a lazyboy chair now then a bar stool. ;D

If you want the broken in baseball glove look, you may want to consider getting it resurfaced with bull hide or buffalo hide leather over top some memory foam. Treat the leather with saddle soap and follow with 2-3 treatments of kneadsfoot oil, rubbing it well into the seams. This will waterproof your leather seat, just once in a while, re-treat the seat by cleaning it with the saddle soap and applying another coat(s) of the kneadsfoot oil. I used to do this with my leather catcher's mitt, it still is more or less clean, and still supple and waterproof to this day. My softball mitt is also 23 yrs old.... This is just a suggestion!! :)

I wonder if that kneadsfoot oil would soften up some of the Hardasses on here(Me included) LOL
