Did a little ride to test the bike on the tight twisties.

Cool. I already know how it handles on twisties, We all know the blue one, just like it's faster, handles corners better. ;D ;) When you get used to those 30 mph twisties you can up up to my place and ride the 60 miles of 10 to 20 mph twisties. ::) BTW the Stryker handles them just fine but you have to slip the clutch a bit to do the 10 mph ones be cause the Stryker does not like to go that slow.

Straightjacket, These tires are fine at low speeds and I had no problem on the twisties, I was able to do about 20 over on most. Problem with them is the High speed rid. One Goldwing rider summed it up the best when he said they are like riding a fish. I will be putting on another brand Car tire in about another month. I will be adding this to a review to my ct section.
Toby this road has some turns that are so tight, it would be like turning out of your driveway and onto a sidewalk. I just didn’t stop to take pictures on the 10 mph switchbacks. It was a good test and a fun ride. Those are my old r1200c touring bags.
After looking real close I could see they were not mounted even and did some more work on them when I got home.

szabla,
those bags look really good on the Stryker.
Looks like there is some really good hair pin turns on that map. A lot of the turns up here you have to take at 10 mph or less which means on the Stryker as you know you have to slip the clutch or pull it in all the way.
I have been researching the CT idea in depth. So I want you to know how much I appreciate you taking time to share your experiences and knowledge with me and everyone else. I have weighed the pros and cons and the pros so far out way the cons ten fold. But there is cons. A guy from another forum could see my concern and the seriousness of my problem and took the time to PM me. I guess he wanted to make sure he got his info to me and avoid flack from others. He said he races sport bikes as a profession but also loves his cruisers. He had a bad experience with a CT on a 800 lbs bike. It developed a high speed wobble. I assume he meant freeway speeds. He said it was similar to high speed wobble that he was use to on his race bikes. But after testing and found the CT was out of balance and would not balance he removed it and found the inside of the sidewall had disintegrated. He attributed it to his aggressive style of riding. He also said he loved the way it handled on corners and the way it felt.
I'm still a few months from making a decision on what tire would best fit my needs. I can assure you that when I do it will be a well educated one do to guys like you and him . Thanks again.

I went the wrong direction on the pressure. I put in 41 psi and know I can’t tell the difference from the bike tire. I am using 3.5 oz balance beads. In addition, for what it matters they are good also. Live and learn.
I/m sure we will get it right sooner or latter. BTW that map shows a good example of the roads I ride but multiply the miles more than 3 times and the roads are not maintained like a National park. And it looks like the entire 13+ miles there only change in elevation only a fraction of what these roads up here do in as many miles. The 30 miles from my house goes from 3,000 ft to 500 ft in 15 miles then back up to close to 4,000 ft in 8 miles then back down to almost sea level in 7 more miles.

I understand, what I do for fun you do out of necessity. Toby put some pictures of the roads. This way other can see the ride you do.
well lets see what I have. Some spots are not safe to stop on a bike. And keep in mind there is 30 miles of this crap in either direction from my house.

how well do the bikes handle on these goat tracks? those roads you guys are riding really do look treacherous. ****, one of em looked like a loose gravel road. I would be afraid the bike would scoot out from under me on all that looseness.

Toby, my kidneys hurt just looking at those roads. You need a dual purpose bike till you get to some real pavement.
Ya when you guys see the videos you will be telling me I should be riding enduros/motocross bikes instead of cruisers. But we want to cruse. the wife wont get on a dirt bike. The road is more like an obstacle course on a roller coaster than anything. Not only do you have twisties, pot holes, sink holes, rocks, tree branches and constantly going up and down hills you have to dodge wild animals everything from skunks to pigs to deer, wild turkeys cows, horses and occasionally a bear and still staying on the narrow road. It's really a challenge.

This is one of the times we decided that do to the road conditions we would turn back. This is about 6 miles from my house.

I don't know where you live Toby, but it seems like maybe it is near the Ca Sierras ? My wife and I went over the Sierras in June one year and the snow was piled higher than cars on the side of the road. If I remember it was somewhere near Lee Vining or maybe that ghost town (Bonner ? Can't remember the name) but it sure was remote.
Ya need to carry a chain saw on the back of your Stryker.

Lee Vining is near Mammoth, Mono Lake in the Sierra Nevada range. Which is similar mountain terrain but we live way north and in the mountain range west of the central valley. Six rivers National Forest, Yolla bolly National Forest, Trinity and Redwood National Forest. The Cali coast mountains also known as the Pacific Coast Mountain Range. We are Actually in the Klamath Mountains Range that extends down from Oregon into Cali. I think the north west Cali mountain are more vast than the Sierra Nevada range but the highest peaks are only around 6,000 feet and the Sierras are 10 to 14,000+ ft.

My wife would be yelling at me for denting the cruiser saying your not getting any more. Or why the **** didn’t you use the dirt bike and drop it.
I love riding in that snow and those conditions, but I do use the dirt bike.
Toby Does your radiator fill up with mud? Reason I ask is next summer one of the daughter in-laws said we are heading to Alaska. I intend to go up Haul Road to Point Barrow.

Let me correct the highest peaks in these mountains are 7 to 9,000 ft

Yes but not real bad , The cover fins stop a lot and it's mostly in the center from the tire but I plan on getting a fender that extends down further and maybe L&Ms Radiator scoop and screen.

OK, if I said Clear Lake or Mendencino would I be getting closer to you ? BTW the ghost town we visited was Bodie. Really weird. We were the only ones visiting at he time. Had to traverse a few miles on a muddy road and I thought we'd surely get stuck but didn't. The Ranger said she would have found us on her way home that night if we were stuck. HaHa
