as some of you know i have been having a problem with raw fuel dripping from the breather tube and yamaha recommends to install the canister to correct this problem, so the dealer ordered the parts but since the bikes they sell here are federal emmission they have never had to do this before, if someone with california emmission bike could take pictures of the canister, mount brackets, and hose routing it would help out alot. this dealer has been great and helps out alot so i figuared if had had pictures to print and bring with me on my next visit it would make it a lot easier.

sscottab – I have a CA Stryker, but I’m afraid I’m not going to be much help. Only image I can show you is where my CO can used to be. As you can see from the image I cut the metal frame bracket away that used to hold the canister up, then repainted the footpeg bracket. I’m not familiar with your history, just saw this thread. Why are you trying to keep the emissions stuff?

Previous owner took my off before I bought so I never saw it with it on but he gave it to me anyways so I am not much help. He did point where it was hooked up on the TBI. The pic shows two inlets with rubber caps on them Here is a pic of the emissions sticker for the CA bikes. Maybe this might help the dealer. Label Font Bumper Auto part Vehicle
Auto part Engine Automotive engine part

Hopefully the service manual from the dealer should be more help.

i have that manual, they replaced that valve along with the gas cap still the same, thank you for posting a link to the manual, they had the manual out in the dealership today and the picture is not that good. what makes it hard for them is this is the first time they have seen this problem.

i'm no specialist but putting the canister on isn't going to help all its going to do is trap the raw fuel then eventually flow out of it. I haven't looked at the routing of the hose but if its a big deal the only way I can think its going to help is by routing the hose differently routing it higher and lengthening the hose with some possible vertical loops. But thats not going to stop it all.

The canister just has charcoal from what I am told. Maybe they are thinking the added air pressure resistance to get past the cali emissions system(canister) is going to help but many Cali owners have removed this without a leaking problem. This canister is ugly and a bracket is going to be needed to attach it to the left foot controls area. This sounds like a lazy attempt to provide a workaround instead of finding the root cause of the problem.

I understand how the emission system works iam a tech in a car dealership and i know the vapors are pulled back into the intake system to burn so the canister will not just fill up with fuel and i know it will not effect how the bike runs. when i brought my bike home on a wensday and rode in to work the very next day i noticed the spot when another tech came in and told me my bike was leaking fuel it leaves a good size spot on the ground that if you threw a lit match might see a big flame, they have tried everything and when contacting yamaha they said they have heard of this and the fix was to install the canister, that is the only reason iam doing this.
