Hey folks, just wanted to let everybody know my buddy and I are planning our annual trip to Vegas for May of this year and we'd love to have some of you guys out there with us. The ride will leave Atlanta on May 7th and the plan is to hit Vegas by the 9th or 10th. The arrival date varies due to the fact we may take detours through Monument Valley or the Grand Canyon. Our wives are flying in on the 10th for the weekend and we are renting a truck to haul the bikes back to Atlanta on the 13th as we have to be back in our offices by the 16th. As it is now this is a wing and a prayer ride but if we have enough riders I do have someone that is willing to drive a support truck with gas, tools, misc parts, drinks and snacks as well as a place to put your luggage. If you'd like to see the route just Mapquest Atlanta to Las Vegas. The tentative plans are as follows:

Day 1 Atlanta, GA - Ft Smith, AK
Day 2 Ft Smith, AK - Albuquergue, NM
Day 3 Albuquerque, NM - Las Vegas, Monument Valley or the Grand Canyon

I am a platinum club member with the Luxor Hotel & Casino so we will be staying there. I have talked to my casino host and she assured me of safe secure parking. She also stated if there were at least 10 riders she'd get us some VIP ammenities such as reserved tables in the restaurants and clubs, reserved pool area and discounted tickets to shows and attractions at the MGM properties.

there haven't been any comments on this ride but I'd update anyways, trip dates have changed, we'll be leaving Atlanta on May 13th, so far I have 6 buddies doing this ride with me so I'm really close to where I can add the support vehicle. Anybody else?

Sounds great. Like our trip from Atlanta to Houston but a bit shorter in time. Would love to go with you all but it is a bit far for me. :(

Don't forget we could meet up when we are over there in July.

That sounds like a kick ass ride. A couple friends and myself are actually talking about gout to vegas around that time and unfortunately they don't ride. I do half to admit ever since buying thisbike I've wanted to start making some long rides. I do have a friend that lives in begas and is big into his harley "unfortunately". This does sound extremely intersting. What would be the dates now?

Hey Strykershane, sounds like an interesting ride you got but it's not clear to me how you plan to do it.
I mean let me get this straight.
You plan to ride some 2,000 miles in 2 or 3 days???
1st day. Atlanta to FT Smith, some 670 miles? How many hrs do you think that will take. In a car, 11 or 12 hrs not counting rest stops, coffee breaks and food stops. On a bike??????
2nd day. FT Smith to Albuquerque? Some 725 miles? Maybe more freeway but still 12hrs in a car???
3rd day. Albuquerque to Las Vegas? another 600 miles, 10 hrs in a car?
Correct me if I'm wrong on the logistics. But don't you have to add more time for rest stops and gas stops so on and so forth for bikes? Making it more than a sun up to sun down every day ride?
Not saying it can't be done but personally I think that's a little ambitious and would become more work than fun.
Sounds more like you are planing a long distance multiple day endurance race rather than a fun multiple day see the country bike ride.
Guess I must be getting old because that might have sounded like fun when I was 25 years old.
I have 1 question, Have you ever done such a long rid on your bike before?
And if so I hope every one riding with you has had the chance to build up to that kind of riding so they can keep up with you.

Hey Toby, my buddy and I have done 6-750 miles in a day many times, since we've added the additional riders we've decided to pull out on Sunday with a realistic goal of reaching Vegas by Thursday, not sure they'll be able to handle that many miles a day

Gotcha, thanks for the answer. That makes more sense.

How many days in Vegas and when would we head back?
We're gonna rent a truck in Vegas and haul em back leaving Sunday the 20th, my buddy and I have to be back in Atlanta by the following Wednesday night. The ride back from Vegas is always horrible, even if it's on a plane.

yeah, probably but you only go around once right? I've done Atlanta to Key West a few times, both times in horrible rain storms. The trick to doing a long ride like this is getting set mentally:

1) Commit to the ride
2) Get a good buddy you know would walk through **** for ya
3) Have a plan and plan for the worst
4) Get halfway, the rest is gravy
5) Enjoy it, don't make it hard
6) Party like **** when it's over!
