Ya I have to cancel almost all of my summer plans for fun riding. :p I have to go to San Diego for a funeral. :'(
The father and founder of the American Kenpo Karate Association, Richard Willett, who trained the instructors I trained under and taught karate in his chain of studios for years, has passed away. Sad sad day.
Although this is very sad and unexpected, it will also be a awesome day that will be a reunion of hundreds of martial artists including myself to join together who trained together and helped the American Kenpo Karate Association grow from the early 80s to what it is today.
Also we plan on riding our bikes and making the return trip enjoyable.
The trips I have to cancel include Carson City Raider rally and Reno Sparks Star Days rally and a few others.

How does this cause so many cancellations?
Budget and time schedule. When the funeral is and when I can schedule a ranch sitter. We will turn it into a 2 week trip. It,s a 1,600 mile round trip to start with, then add on any extra miles cold be anywhere from 2,000 to 2,800 miles before we get back home as it was one riding season we went that way. My wife is not a seasoned rider yet so I don't see us doing more than 300 to 350 maybe 400 miles a day. So you add in the cost of camp sights, motels food gas and all the places we want to visit that may take up what we have budgeted for this years riding.
It doesn't cancel my riding season so much as it governs when and where I go. Like I said we are going on the bikes and make the best out of an unfortunate circumstance.

Sorry for your loss Toby. The entire Martial Arts community will mourn with you. I know the respect you have for him as I train in Koei Kan Karate and I know how much your Sensei means to you. On the up side, enjoy the ride and be safe.

Thanks traxcr,
Ya there will be martial artists from around the world there, including Joe Lewis the first Full Contact Heavy Weight Champion of the World as he is one of the founders and trainers of our free style fighting system. Plus guys I trained and taught with when the studios were still The Tracey Brothers Kenpo studios. Guys that are now world contenders and martial arts hall of fame members and of course some of my old students and instructors. So it will be quite a gathering. So you can see why this takes priority over anything I had planed for this season.

Thanks dreadly. We plan to ride up into Canada one season soon. We are planing our rout to San Diego as I speak. Looks like it's going to take us across the 2 mountain ranges on hwy 36 past Lake Almanor then south to Truckee and Lake Tahoe then stay in the high mountains south out of Tahoe instead of going down into Carson, (unfortunately a week after you guys are there, :( ) and down to Mono Lake then Mammoth Lakes, , Owens Lake and on south to SD. Then we will either go back threw the deserts of AZ and NV stopping at Lake Havasu, zoom past Las Vevgas as fast as we can lol, or we will go up coast hwy 1 and 101 all the way home Camping on the beaches. Yes we like water. ;D Looks like it could get close to 3,000 miles before we get done ;D So you can bet we will make it enjoyable. Also the services will be more a of a reunion/celebration to honer the life and legacy of Grand Master Richard( Dick) Willett and all he has left with us.
