schimbo Mod question

Has anyone done the schimbo mod since schimbo did? I took my exhaust off today and have been looking at it but dont see how to meet the two pieces up after you cut it. If you cut it so the heat shield hides the weld then it reduces down from the muffle size. Just wondering what other people did to weld them together. Thanks
