I use one all the time. But that is because I live in a townhouse and don't have room for a hydraulic jack. The scissor jack is small enough to carry into the basement or store in the back hall The bike is stable on it but you can only lifts one end of the bike at a time. So you would have to block one end and use it for the other end to lift the whole bike off the ground. It is a mechanical device so you don't have to worry about keeping the bike on it for an extended period of time. I plan on using it to keep the back tire off the ground for the winter, It is handy for lifting the back wheel of the ground for cleaning or leveling the bike to check the oil.

I got a buddy who uses a "Black Widow" he got from Discount Ramps and swears by it. Cheap, compact. He did fab some safety blocks from 2X4 's to prevent accidental tipping (he has 4 young kids). I use the Harbor Freight yellow jack and love it.
