The tall with the luggage rack clears some of the aftermarket passenger seats, reportedly the short w/rack has some issues.
The tall with or without the rack gives more options for attaching gear, T-Bags etc.
I have the tall and everyone from my 11 yr old to a friend weighing in at 250# felt very comfortable with the tall.
I have the Quick Release version and love it. Mine is the midnite version and the build quality is excellent.

Mine is also the quick release, I know some people will argue that it only takes 5 mins to remove the bolt on one. but its saves so much time. 5 seconds to go on or off. Passenger or Solo. The sticker says it only holds 10 lbs but its made of 3/8" steel im sure it holds way more Ive had about 70 lbs on it no problem.

Can anyone tell me the heights of the short and tall backrest after being mounted. Thanks
Short backrest, from the seat to the center of the pad is 6" and to the top is almost 10".

I went with the shorty. My buddy who rides a V-Star suggested the shorter as his wife likes to be able to stretch and move around a bit in the saddle when they are stopped. The taller backrest would be a tad too restrictive in the regard. Only had my lady on my bike with the shorty, but she claims it is very comfortable and she's even able to wear a backpack if need be (don't have it outfitted with saddlebags yet). Anyway, just my two cents...

I went with the short quick release chrome one and by mistake on amazon they sold it to me for the price of the fixed one so it was a plus for me I have it with the yamaha saddlebags and I had to get larger bolts for the back support bar to be able to mount the two together and also had to remove that plastic side spoiler because it wouldn't fit with the OEM bolts. I wonder if the support bars came with extended bolts just in case you planned on putting the backrest. In my case I had the saddle bags installed at the dealer and I bought the backrest on my own. According tpo my dealer the backrest should have provided the extended bolts... Anyone has encountered this issue ? I couldn't find the exact round head hex bolts that were OEM so I have an oversized traditional hex bolt that doesnt fit inside the support bar notch... It kinda sux and also the bolt is not as strong as the OEM's

This one was round and pad on it had the yamaha logo stitched onto it. I know it was a raider but guess it could have been aftermarket with a yamaha pad, he drove off before I could get over there and ask guy about it.

I have the tall fixed backrest and just added a Mustang seat, now my wife complains that the backrest is too short. Are there other pads that will fit on the tall backrest?
