Well, after almost a year of riding without a plate I figured I'd try making a side mount bracket. I made these as small as possible, just enough to stick the plate on. I'll post a pic of it on the bike tomorrow.

You could totally sell those and people would buy them. I'm very interested! I've been looking for a horizontal mount that tucks the plate in behind the rear pulley.

On a design note: I see you bent the bracket a bit (I assume to pass the plastic nub on the end of the swingarm) but this nub can be turned around so the projection points inward negating the need for the bend. Just a thought. :)

Nate, the bend is actually to get the mounting plate a little closer to center in the licence plate bracket. It may clear the chain adj. but I was planning on turning it around. There kicked up an inch off center of the swingarm and tuck in behind it a little, they dont go all the way behind the pully. There are two, so one is up for grabs. I'll put it on today and post pics. If you want one that goes behind the pully I could make another one?

I think you better get prepared to mass produce those bad boys. Just one question, Can you, a cop see the plate fully from any angle from behind. Yon know how Cali CHPs are..

Nate, How'd you do that to my bike? ;D And if you wanted something like that, no problem. I leaned the bike over untill the peg was folding up and still had 3" of clearance on the plate. If thats what your worried about? With it behind the pully like that IF it did come loose it could hit the million dollar belt?

Toby, side mount plates are illegal in Cali, if I'm not mistaken? (Don't Care) I havn't had a plate on the bike at all in almost a year? Yes I could make more.

Dreadly, if that bolt comes loose my tire is falling off! Most side mounts that I've seen bolt through the axle.
It's 1/8" sheet, and the locking portion of the nut still engauges,if you wanted more engaugement you could lose the washer on the plate side.

You could add a ball/dimple notch on the swing arm to the plate mount that you wouldn't be able to see to give it extra support if you are worried about it coming lose. Or make the arm of the bracket a [ shape so it cups over and under the swing. Just some thoughts.
And Straightjacket You are right, I wouldn't care ether I almost never see a cop where I am. And rarely see one in the local towns and if I do they are usually busy with the riff raff roadies that hang out and don't bother locals.
Oh by the way Straightjacket are you going to plan on making the Redwood rally June 8th-20th up here? Live music, wet t-shirt contest, BBQs and more.

Here is the bracket I made. It fits over the swing arm and so far I haven't had any problems with it moving. It's not the sleekest look, but it does the job. I did paint it black.
