While waiting for parts for my handle bar project I decided to make a fixture for both the bars and building sissy bars. This is my first coplete sissy bar made it to kinda match the bars, I'll post pics of it installed later. Now back to the bars!

Toby also stopped by mid week and we cut off his fender and put on a side mount plate. He loads that thing up sooo much that he drags peg mounts, frame, and the exhaust mount also!Crazy!

I rode 260 miles round trip today to Straightjacket Incorporated Custom Mod Shop in Upper Lake Ca. Courtesy of Straightjacket him self, designed, manufactured, painted and installed his newest version of a side mount license plate on my bike. This new plate mount is now designed to slip on the axle without jacking the bike up and removing the axle. It still incorporates the "Toby Tab" that gives the mount extra support so it wont move under stress but you can't see the tab because it's now on the bottom of the mount instead of the top. After some discussion we came up with some ideas on lighting for the plate. Give him some time and I think it will be another easy innovative design that all of us will Like Here is some pics.

Thanks Toby, and SmokinJoe for posting the brackets. Here are a couple more pics of the finished sisssybar. The forward struts work as handles, and they will work to tie down something to the seat . Input guys what would you do different?

Looking good....

I'd like an option to be able to install a backrest.....assuming you'll be selling these

I will probably do a couple more of these after the bars are finished. I need to figure out a pad of some sort? Was also thinking you could connect the horizontal bars to a point for a luggage rack? YSTRYKER, I'm sure we can figure something out?

Ya Straighjacket,
Luggage rack next. Wife wants to put an order in for a side mount for the 950. Swing arm is the same size but not sure of the axle size yet. I will get back to you on that.

I wish I could stay at home and do this for a living, Love making custom stuff! Just afraid it would turn into work, and then I wouldn't want to be at home. :-\ Also would have to work more an drink less!

Straightjacket,
In case you don't make too many, I'm in for the sissy bar, love your thoughts on the luggage rack as well.....

Seems to accomodate a backpad, you really only need to add either holes and/or a cross rib that would accommodate several version pads that are out there already (ETA....of course I wouldn't know how difficult that would be)

Heres the thing. I am pretty sure if someone could do a proper drawing you could take it to your local metal shop and they could cut it out and bend it for a fraction of what you would pay. Some people have welding tools and maybe a stationary pipe bender. However, the big stuff, like teh presses are less common in homes.

A metal shop could put out a backrest (with the proper drawing) in about an hour. Heck, they could just give you the parts and you could weld it at home.

Issues:

1. Need a decent drawing with the correct angles and such
2. The fender stay post may be hard to come by and fabricate. You might have to do a permanent mounted solution.

If people started posting drawings for this sort of stuff, perhaps vendors would drop their prices. I like some vendors but their markup is ridiculous (a certain radiotor cover comes to mind).

Ya Sraightjacket, radiator covers? light gauge metal. Put that on your list. I'll run some ideas by you later. I'll have Loren draw up some designs? What do you think.

;D Thats too funny 11!
Toby, and others, I'm always up for a new design,or idea. If you can draw it up thats even better. I do this for fun and a little extra cash, but I seriously doubt if your gonna get a shop to bust anything out in an hour, even if you draw it up! It really does take some time to build parts, especially the first couple! After awhile and many parts you can sometimes cut down on some of the costs, but the time is the killer!
