Has anyone had their bike's performance measured on a dyno before and after individual mods to measure the performance improvement? My bike is stock at the moment, but I'd like to do a few things to it. I think it sounds just fine as it is, so I don't want to make it a lot louder, but I'm considering the Cobra Slip-On. I'd like to know what I can expect in terms of real improvement. Also, I'd like to know how the Slip-On compares to the full exhaust systems. Any feedback?

Unless someone owns their own Dyno, it is a little expensive to go get bike dynoed with every performance mod. Great idea and I would like that also, but! Cobra slip=on is just as loud as any other aftermarket pipes such as V&H and Cobra.

The shop where I bought my bike advertises a $50 dyno run. I'm not sure what that includes, as I'm a noob to this sort of thing, but I'm beginning to catch the bug. I'm thinking about running the bike down there before I do anything to it to see what the measurements are, then trying to get some results on paper.

From all the reading on here, I was kinda under the impression that the Slip-Ons were a little less aggressive than the full systems. I ride with my wife a lot, and we use a Sena headset system. I don't want to have more noise to contend with. I know, I know, maybe there's something wrong with me to not want my bike louder, but there it is.

Well if you want to ride with a comm set then I would pass on the slip on. It's gonna be louder for sure. Don't under estimate the slip-on for its bark. Any performance gained is likely the 15lbs your bike will lose with removing the stock muffler.

I went with the full exhaust and am so happy I did. I love it. I agree with everyone else, you can't afford to be getting a dyno done after every mod but if you have money to spare go nuts, I look forward to your posts.

My 2¢ the Cobra slip-on caused to much popping on deceleration. To me it sounded raggedy and unacceptable. I then added the Cobra intake and EJK tuner. Now I am happy with the setup. Sure a full exhaust would be better but I wasn't ready to spend the money just yet.

Yes, Miko. I don't intend to get anything tuned at this point. Just want to get some baseline measurements. If I can do that for $50, I'd be willing to pay it.

Thanks for all the responses. This really is the type of information I was looking to get. Sounds like the slip-on is primarily aesthetic then. I understand that the big air kits can also be pretty loud. Any recommendations on the best one for performance improvement? I'd prefer something low profile. I want to add the forward controls, and want to make sure the air box isn't in the way.

I will probably get a rash of $hit for saying this, but in all my years of working on cars and bikes, there aren't too many performance mods that will make a huge difference on the street. The couple of horses you may gain with a new intake or exhaust don't really translate on to the street (unless you ride like a maniac all the time). If you're racing your bike, 1/10th of second makes all the difference in the world, but on the street, not so much. Exhaust and intake mods, while they do improve performance, are more psychological as far as street applications go. I have the powrflo intake, Cobra pipes, etc. but it's mainly because I like how it looks or sounds. If someone is really concerned about E.T's and 0-100's, then they should just buy a sportbike. SO don't worry about getting dynoed...go with what you like to see and hear on your bike..........IMHO

Stryker2012 - I appreciate your honesty. I'd like to think that the difference would be noticeable, after all the stuff I've read on here, but maybe not. If nothing else, I'm interested in the science/mechanics behind the mods, so maybe the dyno would illustrate some of that. As luck would have it, I called the shop and their machine is down for a while, so we'll see what happens.

Miko - thanks for the tip. It's unfortunate to hear that, since I prefer the style of the Baron's over the Cobra. Does anyone have any experience with the spike style? As in how much did the noise increase compared to stock and is there a noticeable difference in power?

Like Miko said...it's your bike, do it to it :) An awesome upgrade which has caught on like wildfire (thanks again 11), is the 30 tooth front pulley swap. THAT will give you noticeable performance change, and better ridability. There ARE a lot of mods you can do that are noticeable, like rims and tire changes (going to 240) and lowering kits that will change how the bike feels and handles (and looks good). After market exhausts will make it sound good and change the looks. An intake will make more of a noticeable look than a performance increase. (I love the way I hear the air get sucked in with my powrflo :) ) So just realize unless you're going to seriously rework your engine, a stryker is a cruiser... your mods can make your bike perform better than stock, which is always cool, but it won't turn your bike into a V-Max. Enjoy modding it and enjoy making it yours:thumb:
