I'd like to here from any riders from the northerly, colder climates regarding helmets. I rode this weekend and it was too cold for my half helmet but my brandnew scorpion modular SUX at moisture removal. With all vents opened I still have to ride with the visor cracked depending on my speed it may be as much as half open. So I got to thinking about snowmobile helmets. Any comments or suggestions???

The main difference between newer motorcycle and snowmobile helmets is the face shield. Motorcycle helmets generally have a single shield which fogs up easily because it is cold on the outside and warm on the inside. Snowmobile helmets generally have a vacuum sealed two-layer shield. I know it seems funny to think of air as an insulator, but in this case the thin layer of air between the two shields acts as an insulator so the inner shield doesn't get as cold, and therefore doesn't fog up as easily. I actually did an experiment on it in college. If you're willing to spend the extra cash, I'd recommend one with electrodes on the inner layer to help keep it warmer.

Up here in the "Great White North" EH, when riding Ski-doos we tend to be on trails most. For that reason we don't have to worry about traffic to the sides of us, or really to the back either. So our helmet visibility is for a frontal visual. So the Helmets reflect that. If I was to use a Ski-Doo helmet for riding the bike, I would have terrible peripheral vision.

Thanks I didn't think of it that way. I guess because every fullface mc helmet I've tried impairs my peripheral vision I dind't think of the ski-doo's helmet design. So now I WON'T waste the money.

Plus I found that Scorpion makes a breath mask that fits in most of their helmets.
