Re: Tail Of The Dragon (with video)

First trip I took after getting the Stryker was down the blue ridge and onto the tail of the dragon. Definately worth it. Check out the Two Wheel Inn, each room comes with a garage for the bike. Plan on a couple of days down there, the roads are great and there are multiple 200 plus mile routes all around the area. I road loops that are larger then my state. Seriously take the time and go. Www.twowheelinn.com Blue ridge parkway is great as well the tail end in North Carolina and the top end in Virginia are fantastic, middle section is streight and boring. 469 miles and no stop signs .... fricken awesome.
I also stayed at the Switzerland inn, at the diamond back lodge. Good room, good price, covored parking for the bikes as well.
I'm planning on making there at least once a year. If you take a look at my SN image that is a photo I took on the blueridge.
Worth it .... yes

Re: Tail Of The Dragon (with video)

I did it, twice, 1st time on a VTX 1300 with a 300mm rear, longest ride of my life, I fought that thing to turn the whole time, 2nd time on my Stryker, not the easiest ride but much better than the VTX. The sport bikes really get on your last nerve as they just assume you will get out of their way and they will pass you in your lane in the turns. I have a client that does videos for Kawasaki and one of their commercials was shot there. They kept pushing her to go faster thru some of the turns. Back tire finally blew on her and she spent 6 weeks in the hospital from making sweet love to a tree. It is fun but as said before, take your time and enjoy the scenery.

Mr. Shane, I agree, I have a cabin in Murphy, NC and I can say that that area is very crazy with pushy bikers! Another great area I recommend is Maggie Valley. Great tight turns which lead up to Bridal Vale Falls, very beautiful scenery! I have never ridden either but I will probably be doing both this year.

Hi All. Just wondering if any one here has ever taken the ride on the Tail Of The Dragon. 11 MILES WITH 318 HAIRPIN TURNS I know some that have and said it was great. A few had minor crashes, but said it was worth it. One day hoping to do it myself.

That looks like some pretty awesome roads to ride on.
However I didn't see any actual hair pin turns in as I know them to be.
The road I ride to and fro to my house is 30 miles of mountain travel that starts 3,000 feet in elevation and in 15 miles drops to 525 feet above sea level, Then in the next 15 miles goes up to 4,000 feet then back down to 150 feet above sea level. There is probably a dozen actual hair pin turn throughout that 30 mile stretch that you can't go more than 10 mph on or you will end up over a cliff. The bad thing about it is that there is no guards, no painted lines on the sides. and no center lines. And the worst thing is it's poorly maintained.
This WOULD be paradise up here if the road was half as nice as that Tail of the Dragon.
But 30 to 60 miles from here I find roads like that like HWY 36, 3, 299 and Avenue Of The Giants. So I can't complain to much.
But if anybody wants to see the road where I live go to my profile and zoom in on Zenia Bluffs/Alderpoint road And the Zenia Ruth Rd and check it out. Also it takes an hr to make that 30 miles. I have done it in 46 minutes 2 up on the 950.

Robin I don't think any one would want to ride any nice bike on this goat track I live on. But that sounds like a plan to get a rally going up here to ride the Avenue Of The Giants And HWYS 36,299 and a couple others up here that are some of the most beautiful in the country and fun roads for bikes. I met Straightjacket and and he said he is going to come up some time this spring and ride the Ave with me and my wife so lets see about getting something more together. There is a couple bike rallys that do that run in the spring I think it's the Redwood run.

LOL, thats a good one Toby! I guess I'm not the only one that feels that ways! ;D
I'm thinking that this is the one time you don't have to wave and get away with not being called a prick. ;D
