Finally got around to switching out the taillight for the R1 light. Man that looks good. No lolly pops front or rear. Very bright and noticeable from the rear. Best to remove fender and work becomes very easy. Lights blink a little fast and may add a load equalizer in the line. Maybe make my own:

2 questions.
1. What is the yellow wire with the two ? wired into it? I didn't transfer them to the new light. Works fine.
2. There are two flat black plugs under the fender. That don't go anywhere or hook up to anything. What are they for?
Wish I had taken pictures! Just curious as to what they are.

As a side note;
I had to remove my passenger backrest when I removed the fender. Loosened all four bolts, remove rear two bolts, lean sissy bar towards seat, remove front two bolts. Really very simple.

i have the R1 light too and i'm about ready to install. i have the whole assembly hanging off the back of my bike. i opened up my R1 light and was a little surprised that there was only one blue wire, one yellow wire, and one set of cables hooked up to that triangle plug. what connects to what? i imagine the plug is for the breaklight, the other two for the turn signals? :-\

Yes plug controls brake light. Hooks right into plug under rear of the fender, very near light.. Yellow wires go to turns. (Don't forget you are working UPSIDEDOWN) :-[

Joe, after re-reading your post I noticed the part about #2. I thought that I had unplugged them during the un-install because I don't remember disconnecting them, but it's possible I didn't. What the **** are they there for if they're not even connected? Odd...

If you have the R1 light(which is a yamaha), it should just plug right up to the factoy connections. There's a white triangle(main brake and tail), a black, a grey and a yellow connector that should match right up.

Make sure it's plugged all the way in. Mine had popped out just after starting to wire the rest. Yellow wires tap into turn signal wires, (blue and brown?????) I think. Don't need the black ground, already grounded unit through brake light.

Hey Michael I had the same thing happen to me when I plugged my light in but thanks to some great help from the forum. Figured out that the wires were in the wrong place on my new clip. Ground wire wasn't going to the ground wire that kind of thing. Hopefully it's something simular for you

Hey guys, i found a R1 taillight for a 2002-2003 for $29 and I was going to give it a shot. Is there a specific year of R1 tailight that works better than others? What would it take to mount the R1 taillight to the stock stryker fender?

That's the one, and all the connection plugs should match right up by color. The screw holes on the back that actually hold the light are identical as well. A monkey could do it. The lens shape of the R1 is kinda weird but it should mount right up.
