So recently i have been thinking about trading my stryker in for a raider. Guess my biggest concern is the air cooled engine. Dont get me wrong, i love my strker but have cound my self going on long rides and im looking to build a nice bagger. The raider seems to be a great starting ground for 2 up riding when i am looking to go 10 hrs in the saddle. Can anyone share their knowledge of air cooled bikes and their ability to run maintenance free without engine problems?

If you want 113 cubic inches of pure power look at a stratoliner or roadliner. I have a stratoliner and its just a torque monster 90% stock motor mods (exhaust). Love it. Love my stryker they are two totally different animals.

I did it 2 weeks ago, but I went for the Yamaha Venture. Why build a touring bike when Yamaha already has one. By the time you buy the Raider and put the add on, you'll be looking at spending more and not having half the bike. The Venture was made for what you want to do. Even my Dad is thinking of trading his Raider now. Just my 2 cents.

I do miss the Stryker for the real fun/cool factor.:)

Im not looking for all out touring, if i was i would most likely go with a goldwing. I love the looks of the stryker and raider. Saw a raider recently with bags and a batwing that was just what i want. I have test rode a victory vegas and it was a nice bike. The victory is something i honestly forgot about. Only downside is there jsnt a close victory dealer near me. The yami dealer is 10 minutes from me and has been super with discounts and ordering things just for me to look at and try out. I will have to look at the victory again during the Killington classic in Vermont again this year.
How much heat does the air cooled strat engines put off during hot days?

Many have gone the two-up/bagger route with Raiders
There have not been any reported issues on the forum due to the air cooled engines. Some that live in the hotter climates have put on oil coolers just for added piece of mind.

My liner im selling is a TQ monster and a beautiful billet built motor. But I rode the
Raider and I setteled on the Stryker. You will get tired of the high speed vibration and the very noisey engine after awhile. You will never get ride of the back fireing when shifting
Or coasting with loud pipes either. It also reves very highh at highway speeds which gets tireing after awhile. IMHO.

yes indeed it is very sweet, now you have an Idea the mods.

dual exhaust
bags
fairing

Just to start! See if you can find one cycletrader or craigslist. The owner of this one bought a 2008 and paid it off, then he took it back "Stock" to where he bought is and had them mod it. another 8K ? ? ?

My personal opinion of trying to make any bike into a two-up ride when you can buy a bike built takes away from the look/performance of the bike.

sry.. but I love having the ability to turn my Stryker from a Cruiser into a decent Bagger in under 5 minutes! best of both worlds & it works for me!
To each their own - that is what makes it great for each bike owner, they can make their bikes what they want.
