Got pulled over today on my CBR600. Going through a 45mph zone at the edge of town, at some point the road turns into a 65mph zone as it opens up. Apparently I made that transition a little soon.

Well, some guy on an R1 or R6 or somesuch was pacing me, didn't think much of it. Two motorcycle cops pulled us both over.

My cop asked me if we were together; I told him I don't know the guy. I handed him my papers, and about that time it came to light that the guy pacing me didn't have an M1 license or permit or anything. He was even acting like he didn't know he had to have a license to ride a motorcycle. The cop handed me back my stuff, told me to slow down and went to deal with the squid. I rode off into the sunset.

So, whoever you are, young sir, thanks for being dumb enough to take the heat off me.

I never understood why people don't just get it? Back when I got mine, it was take a permit test, and take a road test, and boom no issues ever again .

Now you have to take a mandatory MSF course, but still, do it, get it over with, and you can ride around and avoid the police for being illegal...

I had my M endorsement within 2 months of having my bike (permit was only good for 60 days)

Awesome man! My Dallas Police Officer friend told me that 90% of the riders they pull over don't even have a license. He said they rarely pull bikes over but when they do he said as long as you have a license and insurance they won't mess with you.

here in Canada not having a license while riding is definitely not the norm.

Luckily I am grandfathered in here in Alabama...I understand that it is not an easy test to pass.
It's not easy here, either. But the MSF course is super easy to pass, and they count it as passing the riding exam.

The permit here lasts a year, I'm pretty sure, and that's super easy and cheap to get. I can't think of a reason to not have that, at least.

I was happily surprised by that one.

Few years ago, I was riding at 85 mph in the Nevada desert, ready to cross the Death Valley on a very warm day.

I got pulled over by a cop. I thought at first that I was going a little too fast for him. But the police officer walked to me.

- “Do you have water with you young man?”
- “No”
- “I saw from your license plate and luggage you are carrying that you are not from the area. The desert will be dangerous today, it’s too warm. Here … take that water. If you ever get stuck, find shade and stay close to the road. A patrol will find you … don’t try to walk on long distance.”

He left me with two bottles of water and a “have a good day”.

I was speechless!

Mentat, I see that you are a cross-rider (not to be confused with cross-dresser). If you'd been on the Stryker, maybe you could have supressed the urge to jump the gun. I never have had such luck and I always have the urge to twist the throttle when I see that blue light in my mirror. Lucky for me that my cooler head prevailed. Last time was in a school zone (ouch). Like I was gonna run over some school kid. Yeah, right !!

I've got too much going for me to risk getting arrested over the silly crap - I operate a big power plant and they'd have grounds to fire me for that nonsense. Plus, I just had a ticket go to trial and be dismissed for redlining that silly bike.

Probably would have done the same on the stryker; everyone on that road speeds up in the same area I did. It turns into the 138 freeway right there, for chrissakes.

No, I was just riding the CBR today around town. Went to get a massage. Got a new brake cable for my kids CRF50. Generally just taking it easy.

A squid is a term or a name that was given to a man in the service, navy, also now as a swab as in swab the decks of a ship.
