Some of you may have caught my post in the "General" forum. Had my new Stryker (leftover 2011) delivered last weekend. Started the road to my build with the addition of a set of Cobra swepts. Couldn't decide whether to go with the blackout treatment or stick with chrome but the wife decided she wanted chrome so be it. Here's a shot of the swepts installed.

I've got a Kustomwerks steel front fender sitting in the box behind the bike which I will do a little creative cutting on and a Cobra auto tuner waiting to go on when I get my intake in. I've also started polishing up the highlights on the wheels, a lot of work but looks great.

Many thanks to everyone who has shared their ideas on this forum. It's been a great inspiration. I've also been practicing shooting paint with my airbrush again, something I haven't done in over 20 years. Lot of practice needed before the bike see's it's paint job. Here's a quick look at my first practice peice, a little rough around the edges but the feelings coming back.

Not sure what the paint on the bike will be just yet, I do have a fondness for an old school flame job but maybe with a bit of a twist but then again I have also been trying to get the real flame/true fire look down, we'll have to wait and see. In the mean time I've got a Hypercharger and adapter on order and a set of Avon Spike air grips coming and keep looking at pegs and other Chrome goodies trying to make some decisions. Not in a hurry, gonna take it a bit at a time till it's done to my taste. I'll update the thread as changes get made.
Just a bit of background; many (more than 20) years ago I used to do auto-body and painting as well as vintage car restoration and custom painting. It's been a long time since I laid hands on a spray gun and I've had the urge to do another bike build. Decided on the Stryker after seeing one in the showroom last year. Looks like a great platform for a build and I am looking forward to getting back in the fabbing mode once again. And also to putting some miles on my new baby!

Well after being sick with the flu and unable to do more than lie in bed I finally had a chance to get a little more done on the bike. Added a set of Avon spiked air grips, got a little more done on the front wheel which I am liking a lot. I started installing the front set of Kurakyn Mini boards which will be complemented with a rear set for the wife. I think they will be quite comfortable and look pretty nice. I considered full size boards but thought these fit the look of the bike better. I will be doing some longish commuting from time to time and running boards are easier on the feet. I also got the front fender mounting mocked up with some nice chrome spacers I found at the hardware store. There was just enough meat to get the bottom hole and it fits pretty well. It will come off for some creative shaping in the future. Here's a quick pic of the progress, I'll try and get a few more up this weekend.

Lookin' good! Have any other angles of the mini boards? I think I like how they look.
I'll get a few up this weekend. Probably Sunday as I have to work Sat to make up for some of the time I was off sick.
I'm pretty happy with how they look and sitting on the bike they feel pretty comfortable.

Updates

Alright got some work done on the Stryker today. Really cold but was able to keep the garage warm enough to work in. I got the rest of the footboards mounted, the wife is very pleased with the passenger boards. She says they are much more comfortable than the pegs although I sat on the back and didn't really see a difference. I used the 2" offsets and was able to move them down and forward a slight bit however the amount of adjustment is limited by the exhaust. Here's a pic of the boards mounted.

Also got the front fender laid out, cut and cleaned up.
Here's the layout.

It took a great deal of time to get everything set so that both sides were the same. The rear was fairly easy due to the fact that it was a simple curve and then straight across to another curve. The front I had to cut a french curve out of some card stock and connect multiple compound curves.
Here's the rough cuts. I used a 4" cutoff disk on the rear and plasma cutter on the front. Would have been better with the plasma cutter if I had a little more practice as I have only used it a couple of times and never for complex cuts in sheet metal. I'm a little shaky with it but left enough metal to clean it up.

A little grinding, filing sanding and some self etching primer and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Just hope I don;t have to do that again!

Mustang seat and quick release backrest was waiting for me when I got home along with a set of Soupy's lowering links. Also a card from the post office saying they had a package that needs a signature. Not sure which order that is, can't wait to find out. Will get some pics as the new parts go on.

Looking good Wayne. Let us know how the Soupys lowering link works out. I wanted to get one of them, but they didn't have them made for our bike at the time I contacted them.

Mod updates.

Had a busy morning. finally broke down and ordered a Low and Mean radiator chin scoop. Been going back and forth due to their high prices but had a moment of weakness and.....
Kinda like Christmas in my garage, big pile of boxes with more on the way!

Got the mustang seat on. Nice quality and really simple install, pretty much remove 2 bolts and replace front mount. Here's a pic with the solo section.

And here's the full on seat.

The wife will be very pleased with her accommodations and I relaly like the look with just the solo seat so everyone's happy.
Here's the tall quick release backrest. Still waiting for the pad to arrive.

The backrest is nice, but pricey. Not sure why Yamaha didn't use some nice chrome button head screws instead of the plain allens but a trip to the hardware store will rectify that.

Added Soupy's lowering links.

That was a bit of a job as the bottom bolt doesn't clear the frame on removal and the top one doesn't clear the brake reservoir(?). A little finagling and I was able to get everything in though I did have to unbolt the shock. I left the links set were they were on arrival and it looks like about 1.5"-2" lower. Really made a difference if you look at where the back fender sits in relation to the tire. Nice pieces and infinately adjustable. here's a few pics of the lowered bike. Yes that is a snow pile in the background! Was pushing 40 today and I was sorely tempted to take a test ride but the roads are just covered with sand and salt.

I will be getting the Soupy's lowering links.. soon I hope. My girlfriend was going to get them for me for my birthday, but she noticed last weekend how hard it was to see my rear turn signals, so she ordered me the integrated Custom LEDTail light/ turn signal, safety is more important.. LOL
