Mine makes a ticking sound, as do others on here. There is a YouTube video that shows exactly what mine sounds like. Someone posted it in a thread.. try searching " ticking" maybe. Anyway.. I noticed mine around 600 miles.. now have just over 3,000 miles.. and no problems.. still ticks.. sonetimes louder than others.

Quick, Google search for you:

It started happening on my bike, right after an oil change. It's annoying, but not harmful(from what the dealer told me). My dealer said that most bikes do it, just get louder pipes and it goes away.

Chop Chop all overhead cams have tensioners. Cam chain or timing chain tensioers. our bikes have one on each head. They generally don't make ticking sounds when they are out of adjustment.

Mikoloe to be more specific your are refining to the rollers in the rockers that may be sticking causing ticking. If they don't free up then they need to be replaced. I have no ticking in my engine so it cant be 100% normal.

Some car engines with OHC don't use rockers either. Cam pushes directly on a lifter body that moves in a bore directly over valve stem. Can be either Hydraulic lifters or Solid w/Shims(or pucks) to adjust valve lash.

I dont know Tobi, I thought only Harleys had rocker arms? ? ? ?? ? ? I guess I have to put my beer down this weekend.

Guess I will start drinking wine! Hmmmmm, where did I get that Idea!
Harley rockers arms, also know as loppers or floppers, are the things extending from the shoulders that hold up the life support box where the flappers are located . The other ends are either connected to ape hangers or monkey wrenches or wenches.

the best thing about harley is it keeps the mechanic busy and job security, most bikes have solid lifters with shim over or bucket under, very few have hydralic due to floating at higher rpms and hardlys do use the older technoligy rockers.

Like several others, mine started making the ticking sound near 6 or 8 hundred miles, which was about three weeks ago. I only notice it occasionally, though, and I haven't done anything about it since it seems to be a characteristic of the bike. I'll stay tuned to this thread in case someone finds a fix.
