So nearly every day that I ride I see this blue Stryker at the Park & Ride. As you probably heard we had a tornado last week in Texas. Well, a day or two later I'm cruising by and I see the Stryker laid over, on the kick stand side. I was upset. I don't know if somebody did it intentionally, if the owner leaves it unattended for days even through a tornado, a trap set by the police, or what. The next day, it was back upright. Still in the same parking spot. Sometimes it's not there so it does move. I don't think the owner is a member here but I'd be interested in knowing what happened. Insurance wise or whatever.

If you saw a bike laid over, what would you do? I thought about picking it up, but I thought it best for the owner to see it for their self.

I gotta say I'm at a loss here. Seems to be a very weird situation over all. Personally I would want someone to pick my bike up off the ground whether I was there or not, but a note to let me know what happened would be fantastic.

Hard to say... could be viewed as this.... I see a bike laid on it's side... being a good samaritan... I go over and right it back up... just as I am doing this.. the owner comes out and says "WHAT THE F&$K YOU DOIN' TO MY BIKE"... at this point one of two things (or both) will happen... a fight ensues... and or the dude calls the cops and says I pushed his bike over and he caught me red handed.... Whose word do the Cops take... Yours, because you were doing the right thing... or the other guys who saw you picking the bike up...

I know it's kind of pesemistic of me to think like that... but it does happen.

+1

I wouldn't touch it. First of all, it's not going to matter how soon it gets picked up. Secondly, if the owner sees you he would very likely suspect you did it. Maybe the tornado winds knocked it over?

In this day and age cover your a$$ and call the cops and look for witnesses that may help you pick it up. Don't do it by yourself. You would be setting yourself up for trouble. Just my opinion.

yeah, you guys are right. I forgot that most people are a&%holes who will sue at the first chance they get. Funny how I run a retail store and forgot this very important fact.

I'm with everyone else. Don't go near it. If it was my bike, I'd rather it still be on the ground. This way I could take pictures first while it was still laying down. Then I could make sure it was picked up properly. Hate to see it picked up only to fall the other way. ;D

I was at a rally and an LT fell over in the soft grass. A bunch of guys ran to pick it up. The owner looked at me and said why rush they are not going to fix what has already been done. Leave it down unless fuel is leaking. I wonder if the kickstand sunk into the hot pavement. I carry a small block of wood for hot days.

BINGO! I've seen more than a few bikes go over because the kickstand sunk in the hot asphalt. I also carry a small piece if wood to put under the kickstand.

Good point.

With out the fear of lawyers what would be the "right" thing to do?
What would you want some one to do if it were your bike on the ground?
**** I came into this world without a dime and I don’t think anyone has figured out how to take the money with them when they die.

Still wouldn't touch it until I got help from someone, (also for witness,) or contact the owner because chances are I couldn't pick it up by my self anyway.

I, after asking the question went and cut up some more 3/8" pieces of plywood and am carrying them with me. If I see a bike and it is on asphalt I'll give it to the owner so they don't have to even think about the bike falling.
I can pick up the Stryker by my self; I have picked up heavier bikes. This is another reason for the crash bar and saddle bags they only let the bike over so far.
