well after meeting my wife and her mother for dinner i was on the way home and it was dark. I usually don't ride at night on the country roads because here in GA deer love to run across the road. I was on a 4 lane highway and this area the speed limit is 60mph and is very populated with deer so i was alert and ready to react. i was cruising along at 65mph when all of the sudden 2 raccoons are in the left portion of the lane were i was riding. I started to lean right and let off the throttle when the 2 raccoons decided to make a run for it back across the lane i was in so i grabbed a hand full of front brake and a foot full of rear and poow the right heel of my boot hit the back of one of the *****. I pulled over at the next gas station to gather my thoughts and thank the lord. It was a close one and thought i would share. Don't concentrate so hard on one thing cause something else will pop up and bite you in the foot. RIDE SAFE

You gota be careful out there you just never know when something will get in your path. I dodge deer daily up here. My son in law was so lucky the other day hit a small deer at 60 mph and cut it right in half. Blood, guts and **** all over his close and bike. uck. He was lucky it was a small one. Full grown ones can weigh 150 lbs or more.

Rabbits, *****, possums, squirrels, deer and other critters like that don't bother me, but I was riding to work bout 6-7years ago and I round a corner heading up to my office and out from behind some trees and bushes steps a full grown cow elk. Now you wanna talk about messing your shorts? Lol I pulled into the parking lot and my buddy that ride a fat boy looks at me and asks why I was white as a sheet. I can dodge medium to small critters but when you on two wheels and staring at a 1500-2000 lb elk, that **** ain't fun lol

Glad you're ok after that one! I had a weird one yesterday that I hadn't thought of until now. I was riding on a twisty, two lane road that was pretty light on traffic, exept for the eighteen wheeler that I was behind and couldn't get around. There was just not enough straight away to pass him, so I tried to stay patient while thinking I had about 40 miles or so until I got home. I just didn't like the giant yellow wall in front of me for so long and I'm guessing he was empty because the trailer bounced a little over bumps.

Well just as I was thinking of pulling over and getting a Coke or something, his trailer bounced over something and hit an overhead telephone line stretched across the road. This broke it in half and all I could see was about 100 feet of sparking line whipping to one side and getting ready to come the other way, right into my path. It kind of happened in slow motion and all I could think of was accelerate through it. I also pictured it whipping into my chest, or worse, my neck, turning me into a headless horseman. That's what I will think of from now on behind big trucks on country roads, lol.

Living in the foothills of northern Colorado I get to see all sorts of wildlife. And with the recent fires being so close it drove even more down. I have come across elk on numerous occasions, but mostly at a safe enjoyable distance. However last fall I came around a curve to find a beautiful bull close enough to touch. From a standstill he jumped straight up and over the fence he was next to. Glad he went that way or I wouldn't be tellin you this story.

The other night around 10 or 11 pm a pickup in front of me kept speeding up and slowing down. when he slowed once I got a little closer to him from the rear and he had straddled a possum. I didnt have time to swerve and I hit the possum with my front and rear tire. Handlebars tried to jump left then right and I caught about 6 or 7 inches of air. But me and my bike came out smelling like a rose! More than I can say for the possum!! Man he made a god aweful noise!!

Thanks, I will see how my work schedule is. Today I rode from home to jonesboro, arkansas just to get the feel of a road trip. About 2 hours each way. I learned wear a jacket even if it is warm! I was cruising about 80 on the interstate about 80 and the wind had my shirt going everywhere. I think it is cause I got a tall windshield (switch blade 2 up quick release. 20 1/2 inches). I had a really good ride, tho. I want to take a ride to chicago next time I get a week off. I hear it is 6 to 8 hours from here, depending how you drive.

If you decide to ride up to Chicago, let me know. I am in the western suburbs of Chicago.
