So in another thread I stated that a dent in my tank was repaired then repainted by the dealer when I purchased the bike. I just came back from the dealer and they more or less fessed up to it. I was hoping they had another black one on the floor and just swap them out, but nope. They're going to repaint it properly this time. I told them to not order and install new decals too. Did this for 2 reasons. First I dont want them on and secondly this way they will have to repray the whole tank not just the top.

I'll post some pics when I get it back.

So after almost 2 weeks later I get a call from the dealer and he says that they did indeed have the tank repaired by a local guy (whom I am aware of - good reputation) and he said that he never removed the chrome trim in order to repair the tank. Which means it must have come this way from the factory. Either someone is lying or this is shoddy workmanship from Yamaha.

The tank is going back to Chris (the painter mentioned above) to be stripped and painted. The dealer is going to split the cost with me $250+/-. It sucks that this is the way its gone down but at least I'm getting a new paint job (sans decals) for about $150. I can live with that.

I will be informing Yamaha of the situation and attempt to get them to pay for it. Stay tuned!

You should take the dealer to small claimes court, they technically sold you a used/damaged bike and as such by law owe you the black book value difference no matter the cost to them... retarded dealer......
AGREED.

If you were to buy a new truck off the showroom floor that this same situation happened to the truck, the dealer wouldn't be allowed to sell it as new. It sells as used but with full warranty. I have firsthand experience with this. Call Yamaha Corporate. Complain bout the missing paint under the trim and then bout that dealer fixing the tank behind your back and selling it without disclosing the incident to you. My opinion is it's time to cut ties with this dealer. Just my opinion though. Good luck with whatever you choose..
