Has anyone here had the valve adjustment or done one? I questioned the Yam dealer here and they said that they had never done an adjstment on the Stryker. The 1300 engine yes but not on a Stryker. This may not be a big deal but I cringe everytime I have to take any vehicle in for service. That is why I do most of my own work. We've all been ripped-off before but it's not the money that concerns me...it's the quality of the work. BTW, The estimate was 3 hours at $75/hr.

I spoke with the service guy at Yamaha Saturday about my 600 mile tune up and he said that he wanted to check the valves but it was included in the $200 price.
The owner's manual even says the bike doesn't need valve check until 16k miles. But if you want to help our economy and spend $200 on a oil change and bolt tightening, by all means ;)

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. The service guy said he just wants to make sure they seated properly. I assumed the $200 initial tune up is a requirement to keep the warranty up and going. Is that inaccurate?

I figured the oil change would run around $50 to $60 and the rest is to pay for the labor of tightening the belt, the suspension check, etc....
They agreed to do the lowering wishbones from PCS for me for $99. I started to just do it myself but the bolts were so **** tight and I didn't have anyone help to me. Seems like a fair deal to me, but what do yall think?

I dropped my bike off for the 4,000 mile service and they tried to charge me for a valve adjustment. They didnt even have a maintenance schedule for the Stryker and instead tried using the V Star 1300. I made them pull up the service manual and show them how much they dont know. I think I could probably do everything myself but for me it is kind of piece of mind. I am not sure if I am doing all of the checks correctly.

That's a scam, report the dealer to Yamaha. Mine tried that and I called the factory to find out if they had the service memo and could fax it to me, they said that there wasn't any such memo or service bulletin. I called the dealership back and mentioned it to them and they backed off, but now I won't take my bike to them for service or repair. I'm using a local hotrod/bike shop that specializes in high end cars and bikes. AND he told me that if I need something minor (less than 1.5 hours) I can usually get it in and out same day, unlike my Yamaha dealer that had me make an appointment to drop the bike off for my 600 and didn't start work for a day. I got the bike back 3 days later!

Yeah after reading these posts I don’t think I’m going to take my bike back to the dealer, I’ll probably use the high performance shop that is doing my pipe/air/controller mods for future service.
Yes sdsting, even though the Yamaha shop where I bought my bike the mechanic will let me watch and explain what he is doing and why I still have two privet shops I go to. One high performance V Twin shop. But they Yamaha mechanic told me from day one that everything is so easy and infrequent that I should do it myself. And the first 30 days they looked it over for free and ran me through the checks..
Oh and did you get my message that I am going to be in SD the last week of June? Right by where you are?

I let my dealer do the 600 mile service and was thinking about doing the 4000 mile service myself. I was a mechanic for a good many years so it's no problem. But now I'm thinking I'll let them do all the work on it. I know them and know if anything ever goes wrong with the bike, I will have no problem getting it fixed, no questions asked as they will be the only ones who have ever touched the bike.
