Dam, nice to know. Guess I will be checking mine tomorrow.
Yahh i bought some of those HID bright white lights that the dealers sell 2 for $30??? they didnt even give me a free set. they gave me a 20% discount on some new (same) ones and they burned out again!!! the bulb got an air bubble and melted my harness..... I went to a lil self owned shop that knew exactly what i was looking for and described to me exactly what happened to my harness!!! how come the dealers dont know sh**!

I have seen that all too often on vehicles.. I put in those super whites on my mothers truck years ago and the same thing happened.. Have seen people put in the "plug and play" hids and have seen them catch fire because of stock wiring melting.. What I have done and continue to do is purchase the relay wire harness whenever I install hid's.. The harness will basically take the signal from you stock harness but draw the actual power from your battery..

This complete HID thing is very confusing to me. I have tree questions related to this:

1. When you order a complete kit like the following one. Is it comming with the correct harnest or it uses the one that come with your bike ?

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-35W-55W-Single-HiLo-Motorcycle-HID-Kit

2. In that same kit, anyone has an idea what they mean by "High / Low Wiring harness is designed to work with 2 ballasts"

3. How does it work when you buy an headlight like the following one and want to install a HID kit inside it? How the HID bulb will fit the socket in the light ...do you need to chop the socket out and install the one that come with the kit?

http://www.demonscycle.com/Lights-and-Blinkers/Headlights/Chrome-Billet-Motorcycle-p7577609.html

Ok I might sound completely ignorant. I am quite a manual guy, but I just can't figure it out before seeing how it is built.

I purchased that same exact kit from DDM Tuning.. I did the 35w hi/low kit w/ harness.. Basically the install goes like this:

1 - Unscrew 2 screws of headlight assembly.
2- take front part of headlight out and unplug
3 - take out stock headlight bulb and put in hid bulb
4 - DDM Tuning harness will have a factory match plug that will connect to your factory wiring harness for signal ONLY
5 - other end of harness will run directly to battery to draw power from there
6 - connect harness to ballast
7 - connect ballast to hid bulb
8 - replace front part of headlamp assembly and screw back in

Also when they refer to the harness using two ballasts that just means it is a harness that can be used to support 2 headlights as if using it on car or bike with 2 headlights.. this bike only uses 1 headlight so you don't need the other half of the harness.. I just trimmed it and taped it off.. the hi/low feature will basically give you a high and low beam.. the harness will "shift" the light so you have a high beam and low beam.. same bulb and everything.. just moves the light.. I went this route so I could still have a "flash to pass"..

as far as the headlight you linked up you will have to check that headlight.. first off you will have to see what bulb it uses and if the hid will fit.. secondly you will probably have to order the kit and just cut off the factory plug part and connect the wires manually as it appears that new assembly just comes with 2 wires out the back.. also be advised that when you open the factory headlamp there are multiple connecters in there.. so you will have to find a new spot for these if your new headlight does not have the opening to run them into it.. If you have any more questions feel free to contact me.. I just did this install last week.. Very easy install and looks great.. Here is a pic with the 6000k hid..

Also didnt even realize this as i was taking a picture of my blue led's but if you look in the back my friend has his stock halogen bulb running and I have the hid in you can see the difference in light output..

THANKS Fearthisinc!!!

This answer is more complete than I could ask for. VERY helpful!

I rode the bike at night few times recently ...and the stock light is WAY underpowered in wooden area!

I havn't done any all out night rides yet.. We usually go for day rides while the wifey is at work lol.. With the busy schedule I have had I only have 200 miles on her and had her since beginning of May.. In all fairness though I was out of state for more than half of may and the days I was back we had lots of rain.. I upgraded the light based on all the things I heard about the disappointment with the stock light output.. Plus I am a huge fan of hid lighting.. Changes the whole look of the bike with the nice white/blue output and you get so much better lighting of the road.. Just based off the reflection of our bikes as we pull up to cars you notice my bike first with the hid.. Just stands out so much more then the stock and being more visible is only a plus in my book.. but no need to thank.. Thats what we are all on here for.. To exchange info to help the next guy..

Yeah, i've seen so many people needlessly trash their cars wiring. They sell an aftermarket harness for cars that is heavy duty and wires directly to the battery. It connects to the factory wiring only to use it as a remote to turn the lights on and off. As long as you install a kit with a stand-alone power source you should not have any problems with your factory wiring.

For those of you running HID's, I suggest you check out www.theretrofitsource.com I have had 2 ddm ballasts fail on my car, and would hate to have the single light on my bike fail. The Retrofit Source has much better quality although at a price, they also have motorcyle specific (single light) relay harnesses available. just my $.02
Every place will have parts that fail.. It is like that in the electronic world.. I bought a brand new Cadillac and had a stock HID ballast fail within the first year.. Had it replaced and havn't had a problem in the following 6 years.. I have had tv's that cost over 2g's fail after a month.. It is just the way it is.. However DDM Tuning offers a lifetime warranty.. I don't think they would be in business if all of their parts kept failing and they had to keep shipping out free replacements, especially at the low price they charge.. Just saying...

DDM stuff isn't bad, great for the cost. I still have ddm for my fog lights w/o issue. I was informing people of another option, The Retrofit Source (TRS) has great quality, mostly I wanted to point out that they have a motorcycle specific (single lamp, shorter wires) harness. I have done a full HID projector retrofit on my wife's sv650s (dual h4's) and on my Yukon all with TRS product and am very pelased. I have done numerous ebay kits before without too much propblem but have come to appreciate products from TRS.

Many bulbs claim to be HID bulbs. Unless they come with a ballast and harness they are not. They are probably just higher kelvin colored higher wattage bulbs, which means that unlike an HID kit that runs a lower wattage than standard (stock is usually about 65W and HIDS are usually 35 or 50W) these cheap bulbs are often 100W+ which puts out that much more heat and puts the harness and wires under alot more strain, hence the melting and also possible discoloration of headlight housing. 95% of the HIDs on the market now are made in china, however some have much better quality control than others and is often a case of you get what you pay for.
