Mine clunks very hard when shifting into first, whether from neutral or from second, Moving or stopped. Its a very hard clunk. Kind of shakes the bike a little. People I ride with can hear it from their bikes while next to me....even over V&H Pipes. with the clunk, Its true, you definatly know when your shift into first.
I thought the Stryker 1st gear clunk was loud until I heard my coworker's Harley shift into 1st. Now I appreciate how "quite" the Stryker 1st gear shift is. ;D

I thought the light was pretty bright myself but coming from riding the old Virago anything looks bright. We also live where there is no lighting of any kind and when the moon or stars aren't out it is dark. We are considering adding extra lights because at our age night sight isn't that great anymore.

Agree with you guys on the horn and the stock pipes sound, I want to add the stock headlight bulb, It really sucks especially on the hi beam. I live in a rural area with lots of trees and at night it turns very dark and this stock bulb just don't seem to be that bright. Plus my night vision is not the best, I'm changing mine right away. Already ordered a brighter bulb.
I would get it checked out or compare it to another bike. Mine is rediculously bright.
My lights sucked but the dealer when installed leave it looking up so, i moved it a little down and It's perfect now.
Try to adjusted.
The pipes sound, i open holes and is great now.
and defenetlly changing the Scooter Horn hahha i don't know what happend to yamaha right there. such as muscular bike with a sissy horn hahaha, everytime i use it i laugh hahaha

Just broke a 1000 miles on my 2011. Everything feels likes it coming together great. The things that I Don't like are, The extreme throttle sensitivity or surging. The "Tall" gearing (55 mph in 4th feels normal) and the usual seat and horn. My biggest peeve would be the gearing. If your cruising around the city (30 mph)it's hard to get out of 1st gear. A o2 sensor from a v star will fix the surging. Don't get me wrong, the more I drive it the more I love it! Just a bit different from my previous bike, an 82 Virago 920, which you could tour the town in 2nd gear.

When I first bought my bike, the headlight seemed light high beams when it was on low, and the actual high beam was pointed somewhere in the sky. It was great for pissing off cars, but didn't light up the road.

Since I had just bought it, I took it in and had them adjust it for me. Second time around, it was so far down the high beam was a pretty good all-around light, but the low beam was friggin useless. I rode it that way until my high beam burnt out, leaving me pretty much blind in the dark for a couple rides.

When I was replacing the bulb, I saw in the book how to adjust the angle myself. All's it is is a phillips screw that's through a little hole on the bottom of the headlamp on the right side of the bike. Took me a few rides to get it right, so I took a screw driver with me and made a few adjustments as I went. Now it's dialed in.

Give it a shot.

Has anyone checked how well the steering head and swing arm bearing are greased? Yamaha is notorious for leaving them dry on their other bikes.
This is a good point. My old Virago has slop and sticky spots in the steering because of worn bearings.
