I have seen some people ask what exactly is counter steering and proper cornering techniques. Twist of the wrist II is one of the best video's to watch. I watched it awhile back and I've been riding for years and still learned alot from it. A guy from the gixxer.com forum posted up the video on youtube so I going to share it with yall cause I don't like hearing people getting hurt or killed in a turn. its broken down into 7 parts here are the youtube links. So if your a squid (new guy) or have been riding your entire life sit back crack open a cold one and enjoy the movie until youtube decides to remove it ;D

Excellent videos with information that is a must for all bikers to watch and learn. Explains things that I have learned over decades of riding on many types of bikes that I have tried to teach my wife. It should make more sense to her by watching these videos.

Good Videos. But for those who are new to riding, be careful. One your not riding a Crotch Rocket. Your riding a cruzer, so even though the basic rules apply, remember a lot of what there speaking about is to get as much speed as you can in the turns. This is not what you should be trying to do on a cruzer. But what they do speak of does apply to a controlled turn., and a controlled turn is what is important. Two don't think to heavily into the counter turn. Reason you've been doing it, but probably haven't even known you have. As a kid riding a two wheeler, you naturally always counter stir. Chances are what you did naturally as a kid, your doing naturally on your cruzer. The most important thing to know in a turn is what they touch on quickly. THE BIKE GOES WHERE YOU LOOK, SO LOOK AT WHERE YOU WANT TO BE AFTER YOUR TURN AND THE TURN SHOULD BE MADE CLEANLY. Lastly don't go faster into the turn then what your comfortable with, and don't try to do the turn at the same speed of more experience riders you may be riding with. The most important thing about making a good turn is to be able to come out of it safely. ALWAYS TAKE RIDING COURSES. No one is to good to not learn something new.

For those of you who are reading this please please please be careful in the turns. I am talking from experience back in June I took a nasty spill. I try to hit the turn at high speed in my Stryker and I went over the handle bars and broke my ankle so now I have 7 screw that holds my ankle together. I am ok now I can do everything and I am still riding but I learn my lesson the hard way.. Due to the 40 degree rake you bike can not turn back fast. I am new to riding but was over confident..

Another thing to thing about is that on the stryker carries a higher percentage of its weight at rear of the bike. Most sportbike's weight is designed to bee approximately 50% front / 50% rear. Also, your body position on a sportbike allows you to place your body weight on the front of the bike in a turn. With forward controls on most crusiers your are not able to move your weight around or use body lean as much. If you accelerate to much going into or during a turn it transfers more weight to the back tire and you have even less traction of the front. This can lead to a "lowside" if you push the front tire past its traction limits.

Being a Raider owner I have learned that it takes more space to make a slow speed turn due to length of the bike and the rake.... when traversing the twisties I prefer to decel before the turn then power out without over accelerating for the curve....you have to remember that you are on a cruiser not a sport bike....the vid's are good advice but we're taliking about two different animals....don't mean to step on anyones toes....here's one basic idea " Ride at your own pace - it's not a race"...what does that mean " He who gets there first waits"

the animals are very similar, yeah you don't have to be as thorough and precise as you do on a sport bike but the techniques are the same this is why the movie is mostly sport bikes but it shows the techniques on a raider and a harley as well.

Very **** good advice! You can always accelerate more thru the turn as it allows. Slowing a lil into the turn is a good idea. Hit a turn way too fast and u could be in some serious trouble.

Keith Code's video is a pretty good starting point to learn about proper cornering, but if any of you ever get a chance to do one of his schools I highly recommend it. One of the most important things to remember on any kind of motorcycle is that leaning a bike over as far as possible is not a good thing. Bad lines and poor body positioning will get a bike leaned over way more than it needs to be to make a turn. Once you hit max lean you have taken away the ability to tighten up the turn easily which can make you run wide. Another important thing to remember is to never add throttle and lean angle at the same time! Ride safe everybody, awesome forum by the way I can't wait until the aftermarket picks up a bit for the stryker
