Just got off the phone with the local dealer to get a quote on installing some items.. Just wanted to see what you guys think about this price and maybe input on what a fair price would be..

Items looking to be installed (already purchased):

  1. Cobra Swept Exhaust - Quoted 3 to 4 hours
  2. Cobra Auto Tuner - Quoted 1 hour
  3. Kuryakyn Hypercharger - quoted 1 hour
  4. Custom headlight swap - quoted 1 hour
They stated total would be for about 6-7 hours of labor and I would be looking at approximately 700.00. Still have some places to call but again just wanted some input.. Thanks

Each and everyone of those items are simplistic to do and there are instructions on this forum on how to do each one. Save your money and do it yourself. It looks to me like the labor quotes are double what it would actually take you yourself to do them.

Or.... Find a member on here that live close to you and buy him beer or her wine to help you ;)

My .02:
-Exhaust: You should have a buddy for this but even totally dogging it, bs'ing and drinking beer I'd estimate 30 minutes to remove and 30 minutes to install plus some time to unpack and inspect new pipes. You'll need new exhaust gaskets as well.
-Auto tuner: Plug & Play. Tough part is getting the one connector on. Remove 2 bolts and prop up tank. Others have posted long needle nosed pliers make the job easier. 1 hour is generous but protect the painted surfaces and take your time.
-Hypercharger: This will generally take you as much time to unpack as install. 30 minutes easy. On my alley cat I had to reuse the stock o-rings but getting those out was a toothpick deal.
-Custom Headlight: Depends on the model. I think here an hour is fair.

Miko's friend's 4 hour quote is a fair deal but if you could save even 1/2 of that you're reducing the cost of the mods and that might even make the misses greenlight another mod...

As others have said if you lived closer I'd be more than willing to help for pizza and beer. Always looking for another riding buddy :)

$95.00 an hour is what Yamaha suggest to it's dealers to charge. Coming from a dealership the OEM's put pressure on us keep the rate around their suggested. $95 is top dollar right now but if it is a "Yamaha Pro Dealer" you are most likely getting a factory trained technician and at least to me that is worth a little extra. For basic stuff Accessory installs and little stuff you would probably be ok taking it to the guy down the street that charges $65

Where are you?
All of that, less the headlight is GRAVY to do, Get your wife/girlfriend (Or both if they get along) to help hold up the exhaust while you install but you need to do this yourself to "Know" your bike.

I'm sure someone from here would help you if they knew where you were.

EDIT:
I just searched your first post on this forum and I see you are in NJ (sorry for that) there are quite a few here from there.
