Want to save some cash, buy the mounted one. It takes all of 5 min. to remove it.
Loosen all 4 bolts, remove rear 2, lean rest forward, put 2 stock bolts in, remove front 2 and replace with stock bolts.

Got mine on Ebay and I also got the fixed one, for the same reason as above. Only takes about 5 mine to remove and saved about 120 bucks. No more than I will taking it off its worth the savings

I went thru eBay as well. Copy and paste the part numbers from the Star website into the eBay search winow. I saved a few bucks thru eBay as opposed to ordering from Yamaha. I agree with what others have said about fixed vs quick release. I rarely take mine off so I could have gone with the fixed. If I had to do it all again I would by the short backrest. My wife complains of the pad on the tall one jabbing her in the back when I hit a bump. These New Orleans streets are terrible.

Try Yamaha sports plaza out of oregon. They seem to have some really good prices. As a matter of fact I just checked my email and see mine was delivered today so now I am starring at the clock and boy is it moving slow... ;)

I notched the 2 lower holes in my Backrest bracket so that the pad can be adjusted at different angles. My Wife was complaining about the same thing. That may help your rider.

Would you mind posting a pic of this? I just can't visualize what you are describing.

can you repost the picture 11Stryker?

Also, i found good deals on both the fixed and QR backrests...wonder if the QR is worth the extra $75. I'll only put the backrest on if my lady or the kiddo wants to join
Hey Bro, will take a pic during lunch. Old pic is in Old computer and lost in old forum. Also, if I had to do it over again, I would have the fixed rather than QR. Takes me only 5 minutes to switch out. I have the QR, but don't like the Franenstein bolts sticking out while riding Solo.

ok cool so you just did that so you could angle the pad to her liking?

I just ordered the tall fixed and the pad for $255 + free shipping from http://www.yamahapart.com/
Yes, it was touching her back at wrong angle so I made it adjustable. You will like that combo you ordered! Have a great weekend!:thumb:

If you would have went with the mustang back pad you would not have to worry about slotting the back pad. The star one sits funny if you dont slot it.
I have the Mustang Backrest pad now and had to leave my adjustment same as Star unit. I guess everyone sits differently. The slot gives you adjustability if needed.
