OK, my first 40 degree driving. 42 yesterday and today at 5:30 driving my 25 minutes to work. I wore johns on the legs, nice leather jacket, thin gloves and open face helmet with goggles. The only suckage part was of course the face, I need a mask. And my summer gloves won't suffice for these temps. What tricks do you cold weather folks use? I thouroughly enjoyed riding both mornings and just need to cover a few areas and I will be set.

You're on to the thicker gloves, so... I will ride until it gets below 30 degrees. I have a weather-proof liner which blocks all air, which helps. Then my jacket and vest over. If my legs get too cold I'll throw on some sweats under my jeans. And a pullover head deal that makes me look like a ninja.

Under armour, jacket with liner, thermal socks, cold weather riding gloves and of course a full-face helmet. With all this gear, I am usually good to go.

Under Armour hoody under a leather jacket, Alpine Stars wind stopper gloves (best find yet), cheap leather chaps from Leather Up, Bass Pro Shops pro series hunting socks, leather fleece backed face and ear cover and my trusty skid lid with fog proof gasket shades, takes me dam near 20 minutes to gear up but I stay warm

Leather jacket, gauntlet style gloves, cheap leather chaps to go over jeans, a full face helmet and scarf 8)
Its usually about 30° when I leave for work and then add in the windchill factor, and I am really happy to have all that extra gear.

Very..... jealous. :-\
Haha I don't blame you. The riding "season" here only stops for a couple weeks at most
I would say it only stops a couple of weeks if you add the days together.. lol. Rarely too cold.. just the rain would stop me.

I live in southern california, where it regularly gets into the teens at 4-6 am when I'm commuting.

I've got good leathers, and I put on a bunch of layers. I also use a nomex hood from my fire turn outs. And, most importantly, heated gloves.

edit: almost forgot the e-ticket. I've got a pair of carhartt insulated jeans just big enough to wear over my regular jeans. That works great.

it gets cold here, especially in the mornings. It was 33 this morning, not too bad. I ride unless it gets close to 0, and then I take the car. I know, it's only Oklahoma, but it does get that cold occasionally. Usually it's in the high 20's or low 30's from November to the end of February or so.

I have to wear slacks ( thin) and a dress shirt ( also thin) to work every day, but I really don't do much for the ride - thinly lined gloves bought on clearance at CycleWorld, cheap dollar store thermal underwear under the slacks, a leather jacket ( I don't even bother with the liner anymore) from LeatherUp purchased for 59 bucks, a balaclava for my neck and face, and an open face 3/4 helmet with a 7 dollar 3 snap plastic shield.

It just doesn't bother me that much, really. I've gone the "seriously bundled up" route, and this particular combo keeps me just as warm with less bulk.

I tried several "cold weather" gloves before going with the Sedici Hotwired heated gloves. HUGE difference! Picked them up from the local Cycle Gear when they were on sale.
I also wear the under-armor fitted cold-gear legs under my jeans when commuting to work. I have some chaps to add to that for longer hauls.
My leather jacket keeps me pretty warm by itself. I also have a Freeze-Out gillet jacket liner from Cycle Gear that I wear on the longer trips.
I have a fleece-necked baklava that keeps my neck warm and prevents air from going down the neck of my jacket
I have a neoprene facemask and Bobster BugEye II goggles that work pretty well.

Was 29 yesterday on my 5AM commute and 32 today... and I was good.

ok, i've managed to stay warm but how do i keep my glasses and/or facemask from fogging up at stoplights? other than hold my breath
Last year at the motorcycle show, I saw a product that you could spray on your glasses or shield. I am going probably going to try it out this year.
