OK, well I changed my brakes about 1.5 months ago. I decided to go with the EBC organic style brake pads. Well my opinion is that they suck! They feel very squishy, the brake dust is ridiculous and it seems it take more lever squeeze to stop the bike. I am debating on trying the sinister.

Has anyone put the sinister on their bike?
Dammn so has anybody put ceramic brakes on their Stryker? I can't find any for sht, maybe I don't know where to look.

You sure you don't have moisture in your lines? That's what it sounds like. Organic or not, they shouldn't feel squishy. Fade yes, but never squishy.
Hey Mike, yeah it s the pads... I guess squishy was the wrong word...lol.. It seems to take longer to stop bike.
So I found these EBC Rear Kevlar Brake Pads - FA3192 on denniskirk... Anyone have a yea or nay on them?

Just curious. What's wrong with the OEM pads? I am not unhappy with the way the bike stop with the factory pads.
I think I'm going crazy...

My rear brake pads were gone at 9200 miles. Bought some Kevlar pads on eBay. Those lasted 6000 miles. So I bought another set off eBay a week ago for $7. Got those and tried to install them. Those pads were 12mm thick. Add the shims and rotor and they add up to 30mm. But the caliper with the cylinder fully compressed is only 27mm. The pads are too thick.

I raise a stink with the vendor and send em back. I figure I get what I paid for.

Next I order some EBC FA319/2 for $25 off eBay. Just got them tonight still in the shrink wrap and correctly marked FA319/2. I open them up and they are 12mm thick too!

So here I sit. Bike has been down a week and a half and I've still got no pads. Anyone else run into this problem? Something is wrong and I am beginning to think its me.

I just ordered a third set: the exact same set I bought at 9200 miles. 3 days delivery so I might get em Saturday.

Odd. Went with EBC when I did the rears(vpad though) and no issue. Are you sure the caliper is fully compressed? Really the best way to know for sure is swing by a dealership and measure the OEM pads.

BTW, you must ride the rear brake a lot as the mileage for the pads is pretty low. I used to be that way as well( I didn't think so; thought I was using them equally) but after service manager tested to make sure they weren't dragging I retrained myself to use the front brake more.

As long as the bike is down anyway, probably a good time to swap out the fluid as well if you haven't already...
Yeah, if a dealer was close by I wouldn't be buying off eBay. Amazing that I live in LA and have to drive 30 miles to find a Yamaha dealer. Good idea though.

I actually try hard to favor the front brakes. The rear are too sensitive: lock up way too easy. I attribute the 6k miles to poor quality pads.

Yea that's a little further than my dealership but still doable.
Maybe you could call them and have them take a measurement with a vernier caliper(I'm assuming this is what you are using...) so you can compare against what you have.
I thought about this some more and even when new there is some wiggle room when installing the pads so your caliper must not be fully compressed. I'd try the procedure again myself. Sometimes the cylinder can get hung up or a little cockeyed and refuse to fully compress. Brush or blow out all the dirt on the rubber and then compress the piston slowly till it is at the bottom.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
Got my third set today - and they fit! These are the same brand I bought at 9200 miles: Volar Motorsports. They are stamped VMFA-319/2. They are the same shape as the other two sets but only 9.5mm thick.

While waiting for these I did more eBay hunting. I found someone selling EBC FA-319/2 with a picture that showed the dimensions: 99.95mm x 36.25mm x 9.5mm. Given I bought two sets from two different vendors that were 12mm - and found two vendors selling the same model number but only 9.5mm, there is clearly a problem with the specs for the FA319/2.

The Stryker requires the thinner 9.5mm pads. They are easily recognized (if you can inspect them) as the lining (5.5mm) is only marginally thicker than the backing plate (4mm). The lining on the thicker pads is more than double the backing plate.

If you can't buy in person and they don't publish the thickness, ask before you buy. It will save you time and return shipping.

As for me, I'll be riding tomorrow for the first time in two weeks!
