Finally got the fuel management handled and added Cobra Swepts and a spike air intake. The good news is that the pipes sound great. The weird news is that the bike is making a whining or whistle type noise. Kind of like the noise a squeaky fan belt makes only much softer. I took the air intake off and the noise seemed to be coming from the three small holes below the butterfly intakes. Once I roll the throttle a little, the whining goes away.

Maybe this is normal, I don't know, this is my first street bike, but it is annoying as ****. The Cobras sound awesome and all I can hear is this stupid whistling. It's almost enough to make me go back to the air box.

Can anyone comment on this? If this is normal, I guess it's normal but I can't be the only one hearing this.

Thanks.

I wouldn't think it should be that loud. I have the cobra slip on and la Choppers air intake, and I can hear the whine of it sucking in when In at idle messing around or at a light.. once Im going though, i have to really pay attention to hear it.

I'd say normal just like a car with a cold air intake. your freeing up the air flow so you will hear it suck the air in more. the stock air intake is designed to dampen the intake noises.
100% agree.

Mine don't really whistle. It's more of a loud vacuum hissing sound sucking in all the air. I only hear it at idle only. The swepts drown out the noise at cruising speeds.

Depending on what type of air intake you have you "could" get a whistling sound. Post up what you have installed so people can comment.
The sucking sound is always going to be there unless you go back to stock which restricts and muffles that noise.

I have had the Kuryaken hypercharger for about 2 years now. I am aware of the normal sucking sound..lol.. I removed my intake and cleaned everything to include my throttle body and I noticed that the "whistling" noise is much louder than before. I will be removing the intake again, to see if there if I can see what's going on.

Since you have it off that was my next test. I highly doubt it but run the bike w/ no AC and see if the sound is present.
Before reinstalling look at all seals, gaskets and the like for wear. Just like a person to "whistle" generally requires forcing air through a small opening and the gaskets would be a prime suspect.
Did the hypercharger get damaged, knocked hard etc? Are the butterflies opening as usual(if not check that vacuum hose for a leak)? Does it do it idle? If so reach in and physically manipulate the butterflies to see if you can make it better/worse.
Hopefully a through visual examination will point you in the right direction. If it didn't do this since day #1 then something changed...

Agreed!
That sound means POWER!!!
Actually, it's the only thing about the bike that "sucks" !!!:madgrin:

I'm mostly deaf after 28 years of banging rivets into large Airplanes so I can't hear it unless I'm off the bike with my head down at the opening while I throttle it up.
I choose not to do that too often!
