Why in the helll are passenger backrests so dad-gum expensive??? I mean there's nothing to them. To make matters worse some places even charge an extra $100+ if you want the tiny foam pad that attaches to the metal frame.

I got mine off Ebay. I won a Yamaha Star tall backrest with back pad in chrome for 150 dollars. I was looking for the Yamaha Star short chrome backrest with back pad but i couldnt pass up the price.
Technically i am still looking for a Yamaha Star short chome backrest for back pad.... Just sayin.....

Thats right up there with that silly tiny little tank cover that they charge $60 for. It's a tiny piece of stitched leather. I only have it as it was thrown in the deal when I bought the bike used. The other fustrating thing is there is two different luggage racks depending on the short or tall back rest. They are not interchangeable so that has to add to the limited demand. But its not so bad if you consider the price of our bikes compared to the other cruiser manufacturers. We have money left over to buy the accessories?

i will say this about the quick release. If you dont have the star saddlebag mounts you are going to have to do so moding on the fender stays.

Just to put this out there, I will be starting up a small, at-home CNC business within 2 weeks. It's not for motorcycle parts, but since I do own a Stryker myself, wouldn't mind making some parts in 6061/7075 aluminum or some types of steel.

Man you got a pretty good deal! I"ve been debating on tall vs short. i've not seen any in person to held decide what would be best.

I always go with the tall, the short just keeps your chicks ace from sliding off but the tall is comfort for her on long rides and for my hiking backpack. :thumb:

I have the luxury having both at the moment. I like the look of the short and it's easier to swing your leg over. The first time I put the tall on I did not adjust for the new height when I swung my leg over and nearly dumped the bike! Won't make that mistake again.

My daughter and wife like the tall better as they feel more secure. The low catches them in lower lumbar which does provide lower lumbar support but after riding with the tall for about an hour and then swapping to the short my daughter immediately was holding onto me a lot more. She said she knows it would not happen but she felt like she was not as protected from falling off backwards. The orginal owner of these stated his wife liked the support of the short better. So to each their own I guess. The short aligns perfectly with quick release, fast on and off. With the tall I have a little tweaking and twisting to get in onto the QR. It seems likes it's a little skewed. Could just be the way it was assembled.
