Stryker guys says "Make sure its not in gear" and or pull the clutch in when you turn your bike on ..... He has 3 or 4 stickys to remind him...richard3 said:Went out this morning , my battery tender showed 100%and bike turned but wouldn't start , will a tender show 100% even if the battery is bad ... Checked my plugs last night but it started after that ... any input guys ?
I try and never use the kill switch. By using the key I don't covet to take the key with me.zona said:I use my kill switch every time I turn my bike off. Is that not good?
Yes the tender can show the battery charged and it be bad....you said the bike turned over but wouldn't start - then you checked the plugs and then it started - you could of had a loose plug wire....Lately some people have been having battery issues one member on here had a bad battery on his brand new bike...it wouldn't hurt to have the battery tested - just because it starts at the house doesn't mean it will start again when you're 50 miles away.richard3 said:Went out this morning , my battery tender showed 100%and bike turned but wouldn't start , will a tender show 100% even if the battery is bad ... Sort of looks like another veiled shot, but hard to say for sure since it's so poorly constructed.mikoloe said:Stryker guys says "Make sure its not in gear" and or pull the clutch in when you turn your bike on ..... Hopefully just a brain fart on your part due to not riding like the kill switch etc. as others have mentioned. If the starter is spinning at a good speed then the battery should be fine. Go through the FINEC checklist and hopefully it's something simple you forgot about from not riding for awhile(I'm assuming that from the battery tender but don't know for sure).richard3 said:Went out this morning , my battery tender showed 100%and bike turned but wouldn't start , will a tender show 100% even if the battery is bad ... How long was it sitting and did you treat the gas before that? How much gas was in the tank?richard3 said:Got home from work still wouldn't start but turned over strong , while turning it over I gave it a little throttle , it sputtered a second then ran great , took it for a little cruz and it was fine . what do u think guys safe to take to work ?
Be careful don't get it on your paint it will eat it right off.dejablu110 said:Seafoam is great stuff, I'd throw some in the tank
OK that's different. Assuming all the normal safety switch stuff is in the "run" positions you might have compression lock. I got this once while riding when I killed the motor unexpectedly. Freaked out big time since I was in traffic but by moving the bike forward just a little she started right up. However, mine initially turned over slowly and led me to believe it was a weak battery.richard3 said:Just gased it up the day before , live in California so it doesn't sit for any real period of time , I usually ride 4 or 5 days a week , I was wondering if it could have been vapor lock , my gas cap was on and locked but not sure if it was down all the way.
What is compression lock? How does it happen?BillyD66 said:OK that's different. Assuming all the normal safety switch stuff is in the "run" positions you might have compression lock. Hard to say without being there but if eventually it started and ran good I'd just keep an eye on it for now. Could be a number of things. Watch the idle as that is the hardest thing to keep going. If rough etc. I wouldn't take her too far until I figured out the source of the roughnessDouble check al the obvious connections including the battery. Loose grounds can cause all sorts of gremlins.
