Yesterday as I am waiting at a stop light this is blacked out V-rod pulls up next to me. We end up shooting the sh!t for a few and he says “He loves my V-rod with the black engine" I told him thanks but it isn't a V-rod, it's a Yamaha ;D. The look on his face was priceless.. “Really! A Yamaha! Dam that is a sick bike dude". As we were riding side-by-side he kept looking at the bike, nodding his head and giving me thumbs up. At the next light we continue to shoot the breeze and as the light turns green, we both jump on the throttle. We were neck and neck for a while and then he started to pull away... OH did I mention that he had his girl on the back  We rode for another couple of miles together then he ended up turning off.

That V-Rod looked awesome and really had some git up and go espically with two people on it.

Well heres a story with a better ending. I was out for a solo cruise the other night and pulled up to a red light. I noticed in my mirror that two other bike had pulled up behind me. A guy and his chick. Each riding Harleys. Well the light turns green and we all get on the throttle and head down the street. Another red light, dammit! haha

Anyway, I am in the left hand side of my lane, the dude is behind me to the right and his lady is directly behind me. I see her checking out the Raven, and then I hear her yell to her man, "What is that?!"

He pauses for a minute, and yells back "Yamaha"

Then he proceeds to rev his throttle a few times and yells back to her, "Watch this!"

Well I can tell what is about to happen. I see him eyeing the light for the other lane and it is turning yellow. As soon as ours turns green we both jump on the throttle and are gone. And by gone I mean me. I left his sorry a$$ in the rear view. A few lights later, they catch up and are in the left turning lane while I am going straight. I have to stop while they have the left turn arrow. The guy rolls by and wouldn't even look at me, his chick however slow rolled by for another look and a very pretty smile!

So here is what I think is so funny about the v rod comparison. That bike is 8k more than our strykers and 60% more. To even be comparing them makes ours come out smelling like a rose. Even funnier is there is an online comparison that gives the nod to ours on almost every category.

to quote a HD owner recently:" im getting tired of chasing oil leaks".

The Vrod and the Raider are a better matched up for a head to head than Stryker. The Vrod was the first bike I was considering but even the sales guys at the dealer admit that its sort of the bastard child of HD (my words not his) It does not fit the mold of the traditional HD's and that HD only made this bike to lure a younger crowd to the brand. The salesmen was practically talking me out of the Vrod (before I saw or knew of the Stryker) by explaining there is a purpose for a rider who wants this bike he said. It's not a bike if you want to just cruise to the store, however if you want to go to the store very fast then this is the bike. I think the Vrod was supposed to be a transitional bike for the crotch rocket guys into the HD brand. I still like the bike but it does not have the looks or comfortability of the Stryker.

Funny thing is 2 months ago I was at a local Yamaha dealer window shopping and saw a 2012 Vrod in the showroom. I asked what was that doing here as it was the only HD in the place and had a 2012 sticker, It was taken in on trade for a guy who only had it 4 months and he traded it in on a Stryker. Poor guy could have saved a lot of money and had he known what we already know.

I had a post here recently asking whether the v rod or Stryker. I almost considered trading in my stryker for the vrod 2012 denim. I did not post my experience here because I did I not want to give HD any credit on a Yamaha . I rode my Stryker before the test ride and clean her up good. I Also took pictures on my I pad to compare my raven side by side to the V Rod for a digitized crisp look again. I was torn all day Sunday eating till 11 am for my test ride and possibly picking up a V Rod.

The V Rod musle felt top heavy, started her up and her exhaust was quiet and the rev sounded muffled. We got on the road ways and then I opened her up in gear 1 and she took off kinda like when I first got my Stryker, I was in gear 3 when I got her to 110 and the Harley sales person was not even anywhere close in my rear view mirror. he probably thought I was stealing the bike.

I was only able to take it to 115 and that was good for me. I pondered as I waited for the sales guy to catch up whether I liked the fast feeling of the 1250 C V rod musle with 121 HP in Demin black with a muffled exhaust and less after market parts available, back hurts a little and sitting on the bike and not in it like the Stryker, and does not have a raked front or feeling like Stryker, and has a 250 rear unlike Stryker comes with 210, and Styker is a chopper and Vrod a hopper, kinda expensive and not sexy like my raven, and the sissy bar they make is a short and best fit for bike but will be uncomfortable for 2nd rider, and pondering away till I was awakened by the thumping of a 103 screaming eagle.....Ooo he's here.

How do you like the bike he says.....Ummm ..itsss fast....I grinned and then asked if we could head back quickly.

When I got back from my ride. I immediately asked my wife which bike was better looking. my wife said the Stryker.

that was all the re assurance I needed. I also knew that my Styker would keep up with crotch rockets. Not pass most but keep up. And even when going 115 mph in Stryker a lot of 600 and 650 keep up but can never catch up with my Stryker. I have have only a Suzuki 1000 pass my bike while I was 115 mph. ...all others kept up but couldn't over take on straight always with the heads tart. I am confident that without a head start the Stryker will not be passing but will be keeping up in this situation.

I am happy with my sexy raven. Since she is paid off and one of a kind. Amy wife and I will be keeping her in the family for a long and and we will only add to and not trade.

she can be bobbed later or aped later, or slammed later or whatever....the Stryker is powerful for its class and has lots of potential.

In my opinion , it will outlast its older brother the raider in stamina because of its liquid cooled motor. All it has to do is catch the raider resting off a hot beat and wax him off the long run like I have done a few times so far.

Dear V Rod,

You have been Stryked out.

Your last line is classic Thanks for sharing. I can't imagine the Vrod owners have the same passion for their ride as the Stryker owners do.

Having only sat on the Vrod I can understand the back strain you felt on a test ride. Yeah it's fast but it better be because it felt uncomfortable to ride so you will want to get their quick so you can get off of it.

That's how it's done Raven! All except for his chick is supposed to let him turn off and follow behind you!!

Urban, you're in time-out!
Yeah I don't think my ol lady would appreciated it though when I pulled back into the garage with another chick. "Honey I couldn't help it, she followed me home! Can we keep her, pleaseeeee?"

haha

Solid review. I like to read arguments instead of "This bike sucks." Great writing.

Can I come out of time out now! ;D

I wasn't dogging the Stryker, and believe me I love my bike!! I was surprised how quick V-rod was and he was riding two up. I did back off the throttle a little after I realized we were doing upwards of 85-90 mph in a populated area. I can’t afford to get a speeding ticket of that magnitude.

dang yall were going 85-90 mph eh??? Guess oh boy on the v-rod wasn't too worried about his passengers safety. I would never do something like racing with a passenger on board.

Lucky guy! I'm trying to convince my wife to get her own bike so that we can get another stryker also. She has her heart set on a new Camaro Convertible. I don't really want a new Camaro. Too much $ for the amount of use we would get out of it. If I lived in Florida then I would consider it for sure.
